A remote engineering role focused on creating interactive three-dimensional environments that transform complex, changing datasets into understandable visual experiences.
Highlights
Remote contract opportunity working on advanced visualization challenges involving complex data and interactive experiences.
Description
Company Description
SOLM Systems develops deep-tech infrastructure and applications.
The company operates across two tightly connected domains: SOLM Computational, its engineering arm, and SOLM Biological, its primary research arm.
These teams work on a shared architecture, cross-validating research and engineering outcomes.
The company holds a substantial patent portfolio across both domains.
As a lean, high-ownership organisation, SOLM offers opportunities to work on foundational technologies at the intersection of computation and biology.
Role Description
This is a remote, contract or equity-based role for a Real-Time Visualisation Engineer at SOLM Systems.
The person in this role will design and build interactive, three-dimensional representations of complex, structured data, making live data legible and explorable as it moves and changes over time.
Day-to-day work may involve building real-time rendered environments that represent multi-dimensional data as spatial structure, developing interactive and spatial interfaces (including AR/VR where appropriate) that allow data to be explored directly, translating structured data streams into faithful visual form, and working closely with the founders and technical team to iterate the tooling against real data.
The Real-Time Visualisation Engineer will collaborate closely with founders and technical team members to turn a set of live data streams into an interactive environment that can be read both analytically and intuitively.
The role includes both hands-on rendering and interface work and close iteration with the people using the tool.
This role is suited to someone with strong real-time graphics ability who cares that a visualisation represents the true structure of the underlying data, not a decorative approximation of it.
The company would consider candidates early in their career with strong demonstrated ability, alongside more experienced applicants.
Qualifications
• Strong real-time graphics background.
Experience with a real-time engine (Unity, Unreal) and/or web-based rendering (Three.js, WebGL/WebGPU), including custom shader work.
Formal qualifications less important than demonstrated ability.
• Solid grounding in the spatial and geometric mathematics underpinning real-time rendering (vectors, transforms, fields, coordinate systems).
• A portfolio of relevant work, personal or professional, that demonstrates rendering of structured or dynamic data.
• Ability to take a data structure and represent it faithfully, so that what is shown reflects what is actually present in the data.
• Interest in interactive and spatial interfaces, including AR/VR, and in how people read and explore data directly rather than through static charts.
• Clear communication and a collaborative, iterative working style, comfortable building tools in close feedback with the people who use them.
• High degree of ownership, adaptability, and self-direction, with experience or willingness to work remotely and asynchronously.
• Interest in deep-tech and frontier tooling; prior start-up, studio, research, or independent project experience is a strong plus.
• Eligibility to work as an independent contractor in the relevant jurisdiction and openness to evolving responsibilities as the company grows.
• Comfortable with the ambiguity of frontier work, where some of what is being built has not been built before and the role involves shaping the approach alongside executing on it.
