As a Senior Platform Engineer, you'll play a critical role in strengthening the reliability, security and operational resilience of Wealth Tribe's technology platforms. You'll combine deep infrastructure expertise with modern engineering practices to help build a more resilient, automated and scalable technology environment that supports ASB's wealth and investment services. You'll join ASB's Wealth Tribe at an exciting time as we continue to modernise our platforms, improve operational resilience, and invest in engineering practices that reduce operational risk, strengthen security and create more efficient ways of working. About The Team Wealth Tribe exists to empower New Zealanders to grow their wealth by delivering expert investment solutions and accelerating sustainable financial progress. The Tribe supports the technology, platforms and digital experiences that underpin services such as KiwiSaver, investment products and wealth management offerings, helping customers build confidence in their financial future. Unlike many engineering roles, this position isn't tied to a single squad or application. You'll work across the Tribe's technology landscape, partnering with engineering teams to improve platform reliability, infrastructure capability, automation and operational excellence. You'll also play a key role in uplifting how Wealth Tribe manages platform security, vulnerability remediation and patching across a large estate of Windows and Linux servers. As the Tribe's dedicated platform and infrastructure specialist, you'll help shape the future operating model while delivering meaningful improvements today. About The Role This is a senior technical role that combines platform engineering, infrastructure operations and Site Reliability Engineering. You'll work across a predominantly on-premises environment with growing cloud adoption, helping teams manage and improve critical Windows and Linux platforms while driving greater automation, observability and operational excellence. Initially, you'll partner closely with existing platform and engineering teams to understand the current environment, support platform operations, vulnerability management and patching activities, and identify opportunities for improvement. Over time, you'll help shape the future state by reducing manual effort, improving operational processes, strengthening reliability practices and introducing automation that allows teams to operate more efficiently. A significant focus of the role will be leading vulnerability management and patching activities across the Wealth Tribe environment, helping improve security outcomes while developing more automated and sustainable operating practices. This role offers a unique balance of hands-on engineering and strategic thinking. You'll be expected to roll up your sleeves when needed while also stepping back to identify broader opportunities, influence direction and drive meaningful platform improvements across the Tribe. Key Responsibilities Maintain and optimise critical Windows and Linux server environmentsDrive vulnerability remediation and platform security improvementsImprove patching processes through automation and engineering-led solutionsSupport reliable, secure and highly available services across Wealth TribeDesign and implement operational tooling, monitoring and alerting solutionsBuild and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting platform and infrastructure deliveryImprove observability through dashboards, metrics, logging and alertingIdentify operational risks and implement preventative controlsParticipate in incident response, problem management and post-incident reviewsDevelop automation that improves platform management, security and operational efficiencyPartner with engineering teams to promote Site Reliability Engineering principles and practicesCreate and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational proceduresInfluence platform strategy and recommend improvements that enhance reliability and reduce operational effortCollaborate across squads to solve complex platform and infrastructure challengesParticipate in on-call support when required About You You're an experienced platform, infrastructure or Site Reliability Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and improving the way technology operates. You're equally comfortable supporting critical production systems, automating repetitive work, engineering more resilient solutions or helping teams adopt better operational practices. You enjoy understanding how things work beneath the surface and are motivated by finding smarter, more scalable ways to solve problems. You'll bring strong technical depth, a pragmatic approach to problem solving and the ability to balance operational excellence with longer-term strategic thinking. Most importantly, you'll enjoy working collaboratively and influencing positive change across a complex technology environment. Key Skills & Experience Must Have 10+ years' experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, Site Reliability Engineering or related disciplinesStrong Windows and Linux server administration experienceProven experience supporting and operating enterprise-scale infrastructure environmentsExpertise in PowerShell and Python scriptingExperience developing automation solutions across infrastructure and operational processesStrong vulnerability management and patching experienceExperience supporting production systems within complex enterprise environmentsAzure cloud experience and exposure to hybrid infrastructure environmentsStrong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelinesExperience with Git-based source control and modern DevOps practicesStrong monitoring, observability and operational support experienceExperience driving reliability, operational improvement or SRE-focused initiativesStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to influence technical direction and platform improvementExcellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders Highly Desirable AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service) experienceExperience working in Site Reliability Engineering or Platform Engineering teamsExperience with Ansible or similar automation and orchestration toolsExperience with observability platforms and monitoring toolingExposure to API gateway technologies such as KongExperience supporting enterprise application hosting platformsExperience improving patching and vulnerability management processes through automationCertificate management and enterprise networking experienceExperience working within large-scale or highly regulated environmentsAzure Administrator Certification (AZ-104) or equivalent Working for ASB At ASB, we want our people to thrive both professionally and personally.
