Hutchison Ports Australia is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Sydney Engineering team and support the safe, compliant and reliable operation of our automated container terminal.
This is a hands-on technical engineering role suited to someone with strong electrical engineering capability across heavy industrial assets, HV/LV systems, protection systems, drive systems, PLCs, contractor management and operational safety.
You will provide professional electrical engineering advice across terminal assets, support compliance with Australian Standards and legislative requirements, contribute to equipment improvement initiatives, and play a key role in maintaining safe and reliable engineering operations.

About The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Sydney, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for supporting electrical design, manufacture, installation, maintenance, compliance and continuous improvement activities across Hutchison Ports Sydney.
You will work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, contractors, consultants and other internal stakeholders to ensure electrical assets, HV/LV systems and associated procedures are safe, compliant and fit for operational requirements.
This role will also provide technical support, project management, contractor oversight and mentoring to ensure electrical engineering activities are delivered safely and effectively.
What You’ll Be Doing
Provide professional electrical engineering advice across terminal assets, systems and equipment.Ensure electrical assets and engineering activities comply with Australian Standards, government legislation, company policy and internal procedures.Support the development, improvement and implementation of electrical engineering procedures and safe work practices.Support compliance and ongoing improvement of HV systems, LV systems, protection systems, drive systems and PLC-related controls.Lead or assist with electrical engineering projects, improvement initiatives and equipment upgrades.Assist with procurement activities for electrical equipment, services, contractors and consultants.Manage contractors and consultants working across HV and LV electrical activities.Provide technical support, training and mentoring to other employees where required.Identify and report hazards and promote safe work practices across engineering activities.Contribute to continuous improvement of equipment reliability, compliance, safety and operational performance.Share technical knowledge across Hutchison Ports Australia facilities where required.Undertake the role of technical specialist as required.Perform occasional work outside normal office hours where operational requirements require support.
About You
You are a technically strong Electrical Engineer with practical heavy industry experience and a strong safety and compliance mindset.
You are comfortable working in an operational environment where reliability, safety, response time and technical judgement matter.
You can engage effectively with maintenance teams, contractors, operational leaders and technical stakeholders, and you bring a practical approach to solving complex electrical issues.
You will ideally have experience with industrial electrical equipment, HV and LV systems, protection systems, drive systems, PLC ladder logic, safety processes and contractor coordination.
Skills And Experience
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or a related electrical discipline.Minimum 3 years’ engineering experience with heavy industrial electrical equipment.Experience with High Voltage and Low Voltage equipment.Experience with HV and LV protection systems.Experience with drive systems and PLC ladder logic.Strong understanding of electrical compliance requirements, Australian Standards and relevant legislation.Demonstrated ability to manage contractors, consultants or technical work groups.Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.Strong written and verbal communication skills.High level of safety awareness, compliance focus and commitment to safe work practices.Current driver’s licence.
Highly Regarded
Experience in ports, heavy industry, mining, manufacturing, utilities, infrastructure, automated operations or high-speed production environments.MEX or similar maintenance management system experience.Lean, Six Sigma or continuous improvement exposure.

Applicants must already hold current Australian working rights and be able to work full-time in Australia and currently located in Sydney by the time of start of employment.
