About The Role The Boeing Company is seeking a highly skilled BackEnd Software Engineer (Experienced or Senior) to join our Model-Based Engineering (MBE) software team located in Berkeley, Missouri. This role primarily supports Boeing Defense Services (BDS), focusing on developing and enhancing web applications and services critical to our defense and aerospace projects. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing APIs, developing data-processing pipelines, optimizing database queries, and establishing scalable, production-ready infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in transforming prototypes and minimum viable products into robust, scalable systems suitable for operational deployment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, lead architectural decisions, and contribute to high-impact projects. The role involves research and evaluation of emerging tools and frameworks, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating across teams to deliver reliable, high-performance software solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in backend development, cloud infrastructure, and system architecture, with opportunities to grow into full-stack development roles with frontend responsibilities. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a combination of education, experience, and security clearance requirements, including: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance, with the ability to obtain Special Program Access.At least 5 years of experience in backend software development using Java, Spring, Oracle SQL, or SQL Server.Proficiency in server-side programming languages such as Go, Python, or Java, with at least 5 years of experience.Strong knowledge of database technologies, including SQL and PL/SQL.Familiarity with Agile development methodologies. Preferred qualifications include over nine years of related experience, experience with infrastructure development, cloud computing (AWS), microservices architecture, and modern development tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab, and CI/CD pipelines. Candidates with active Top Secret security clearance and experience with large-scale distributed systems are highly desirable. Responsibilities Lead the architecture, development, documentation, and maintenance of efficient, innovative software processes, tools, and methodologies to support continuous integration, delivery, and deployment of safety-critical systems.Provide technical oversight for various systems, guiding teams in designing and operating production-ready solutions.Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to address complex engineering challenges.Mentor and develop engineering team members across all levels, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.Manage projects from conception through deployment with minimal supervision, ensuring timely and successful delivery.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape system architecture and define technical requirements.Build and expand infrastructure components for multi-application communication, logging, alerts, authentication, and configuration management.Create comprehensive test suites to verify system reliability, performance, and security.Participate in architectural discussions, influence product roadmaps, and take ownership of key initiatives.Resolve complex technical issues, driving innovations that enhance system resilience, availability, and scalability.Research and oversee the implementation of current and emerging technologies, frameworks, and regulatory changes relevant to software development.Translate system-level requirements into detailed software requirements and models, ensuring traceability from design to testing.Perform code reviews to ensure adherence to standards and requirements, maintaining high-quality codebase integrity.
