This role supports a hybrid technology environment that includes on-premises data centres, virtualization platforms, storage, backup and recovery systems, Microsoft infrastructure services, Azure cloud services, monitoring tools, and business-critical applications. The Systems Engineer ensures infrastructure services are reliable, secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with business priorities. The role provides Tier 3 technical expertise, contributes to infrastructure strategy and roadmaps, supports audit and compliance activities, participates in disaster recovery planning, and helps modernize infrastructure operations through automation, documentation, monitoring, and standardization. Role Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Monitor, configure, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise infrastructure solutions, including server platforms, virtualization, storage, backup, cloud services, and management tools.Administer and support Windows Server, VMware, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, certificate services, file services, IIS, SharePoint, Exchange-related infrastructure, and other enterprise platforms.Monitor infrastructure availability, capacity, performance, and health using enterprise monitoring and alerting tools.Respond to infrastructure alerts, incidents, service degradation, hardware and software failures, and system performance issues.Provide Tier 3 escalation support for complex infrastructure incidents and service requests.Maintain infrastructure asset information, technical documentation, configuration records, operational procedures, and support runbooks. Cloud and Hybrid Infrastructure Support the planning, implementation, and operation of Azure and hybrid cloud infrastructure services.Assist with cloud platform governance, monitoring, access administration, cost awareness, and operational controls.Participate in the design and support of cloud-connected infrastructure, including identity, networking, monitoring, backup, and security-related services.Contribute to cloud adoption and modernization initiatives that improve scalability, resiliency, and operational efficiency. Automation and Operational Improvement Develop and maintain scripts, automation, and repeatable processes using tools such as PowerShell, Python, or other approved automation platforms.Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and increase operational reliability.Support patch management, server hardening, configuration baselines, lifecycle management, and operational standardization.Recommend improvements to infrastructure processes, monitoring, documentation, and service delivery. Security, Risk, and Compliance Ensure infrastructure services are configured and maintained in alignment with security best practices, privacy requirements, regulatory obligations, and FirstOntario policies.Support access rights administration, privileged access controls, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and audit evidence collection.Assist with infrastructure security reviews, internal audits, risk assessments, and remediation activities.Monitor and protect systems access, data integrity, and infrastructure platforms in accordance with business and regulatory requirements. Backup, Disaster Recovery, and Resilience Configure, maintain, and validate backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery capabilities for critical infrastructure services.Participate in annual disaster recovery planning, testing, documentation, and remediation activities.Support data protection, retention, archive, and recovery processes across enterprise systems.Help ensure infrastructure platforms meet availability, recovery, and business continuity requirements. Architecture, Roadmaps, and Lifecycle Management Support the Architect Team and contribute to infrastructure technology roadmaps for servers, virtualization, storage, backup, cloud, monitoring, identity, and management tools.Support the Manager in gathering information to prepare technical recommendations, business cases, lifecycle plans, and implementation approaches for new or replacement infrastructure services.Research emerging technologies, industry trends, platforms, and standards that may improve the reliability, security, or efficiency of FirstOntario's infrastructure environment.Support capacity planning, asset lifecycle planning, and infrastructure modernization initiatives. Project and Vendor Support Act as an infrastructure technical lead or subject matter expert on projects.Collaborate with IT teams, application teams, vendors, outsourcers, and contractors and work with the IT Architect Team to deliver secure and reliable technology solutions.Participate in change management activities for infrastructure updates, production changes, upgrades, and maintenance.Support vendor engagement, technical reviews, issue escalation, and service-level discussions. Team Support and Knowledge Sharing Provide technical guidance to junior team members and other infrastructure support staff.Share knowledge, contribute to documentation, and support cross-training within the infrastructure team.Provide backup coverage for other Infrastructure team members when required.Participate in on-call escalation and after-hours support as business needs require. Required Skills Have a college diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or a relevant combination of equivalent training and work experience.Preferred certifications include AZ-104, AZ-305, VCP-DCV, ITIL 4 Foundation, SC-300, CCNA, NetApp NCDA, or equivalent infrastructure, cloud, security, or platform certifications.Have five (5) to seven (7) years of enterprise level support experience. Advanced knowledge of Networking and troubleshooting tools. Experience maintaining security devices including firewalls, load balancers, etc. Extensive practical knowledge of data input/output procedures, and system backup protocols.Strong technical command of scripting languages. (Powershell, python, etc.)Strong knowledge of production schedules and automation.Experience with Disaster Recovery is an assetExperience documenting and maintaining configuration and process informationEffective communication, interpersonal and presentation skillsFamiliarity with the Temenos banking system is an assetAbility to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, while being sensitive to the business priorities and the impact to the Credit Union.Be available to work evenings and weekends as the job demands and travel as requiredBe actively participating in an on-call rotation This posting is for an existing vacancy. Salary Range: $81,110 to $111,527 annually. Compensation for this role reflects a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Those whose experience more closely aligns the role's requirements may be placed higher within the salary range.
