About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join Palantir's Substrate team. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining Palantir's core production infrastructure, which encompasses hundreds of Kubernetes (K8s) clusters across diverse environments—from on-premises data centers to major cloud hyperscalers. These environments include internet-connected setups, air-gapped systems, small hardware footprints, and large-scale deployments. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and scaling Palantir's managed Kubernetes offerings, ensuring seamless operation across all these environments. You will be tasked with automating the deployment and management of K8s clusters, reducing manual interventions, and contributing to upstream CNCF components. Your work will directly impact the stability, security, and scalability of Palantir's infrastructure, supporting the company's mission to deliver reliable and secure data solutions. The role requires a passion for infrastructure at scale, a deep understanding of Kubernetes, and a commitment to operational excellence. Qualifications Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in software development focused on core infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on operational excellence.At least 2 years of experience contributing to system design or architecture, including reliability, scalability, and performance considerations.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Proficiency in systems programming languages such as Go, C/C++, or similar.Hands-on experience with infrastructure automation tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or Kubernetes operators, along with scripting skills in Go, Java, or equivalent.Deep understanding of hardware configurations, operating system tuning, diagnostic tools, and networking fundamentals.Extensive experience working with containers (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes) at scale.Experience with cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, or sysadmin/SRE experience in data center environments.Proven ability to design, build, and operate high-scale observability and infrastructure systems.Knowledge of networking concepts, including CNIs and cloud networking infrastructure, is preferred. Responsibilities Design and deliver container runtime solutions tailored for challenging environments, including new clouds, on-premises data centers, and edge devices.Develop automation frameworks and establish operational standards to manage Kubernetes securely at scale with minimal manual intervention.Drive innovation by adopting and integrating new Kubernetes features and CNCF tools, contributing to upstream projects as necessary.Architect the next generation of Palantir's infrastructure by leveraging a comprehensive understanding of internal systems and industry standards.Ensure the stability, security, and scalability of Kubernetes clusters across diverse environments, adhering to compliance and security requirements.Build and maintain tools that facilitate automated deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of infrastructure components.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize infrastructure performance and reliability.Participate in code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing to foster a culture of engineering excellence.
