About Role:
Booking.com’s Trips Business Unit is building a more connected travel experience across the customer journey.
Our teams work on high-scale products and services that help travellers discover, compare, book, and manage travel experiences.
The Trips Test Engineering community helps teams build quality in from the start.
We work closely with developers, product managers, and designers to improve testability, strengthen automation, and deliver reliable experiences for travellers and partners.
We are looking for a Test Engineer I to join our Trips Test Engineering team in Bangalore.
This role is suited to an engineer who enjoys understanding products, finding meaningful risks, and helping teams deliver reliable software through pragmatic testing and automation.
What you’ll be doingUnderstand product requirements and acceptance criteria, and identify relevant test scenarios and risks.
Provide testability feedback during design and development, using risk-based testing, exploratory testing, test charters and appropriate test oracles.
Work independently on test automation tasks, including API, UI, mobile apps and defect-management activities within the team’s scope, seeking support for complex or unique scenarios.
Write and maintain valuable, isolated, deterministic automated tests, using appropriate automation levels, test data, mocks or stubs, and CI integration
Contribute to API, web, and mobile test automation using the tools and frameworks adopted by the team.
Perform basic mobile testing across Android and/or iOS devices, app journeys, screen sizes, network conditions, and app lifecycle scenarios.
Run tests through CI/CD pipelines and help investigate failures to provide reliable feedback to the team.
Report defects clearly, support triage, and participate in defect investigation and root-cause analysis.
Participate in basic quality checks for areas such as accessibility, performance, security, usability, and mobile compatibility.
Drive collaborative test implementation and execution within the team and contribute to broader engineering quality;
Review test results and use logs, metrics, traces, and dashboards to investigate failures and understand production behaviour.
Use AI-assisted tools to generate test ideas, create test data, improve automation, and analyse failures, while reviewing outputs for correctness, privacy, security, and maintainability.
Contribute to testing AI-enabled features by checking accuracy, relevance, consistency, safety, and unexpected outputs using representative scenarios.
Share learnings with teammates and advocate for a culture of shared responsibility for quality.
What you’ll bringTypically 2–4 years of experience in Quality Engineering.
Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C#.
Hands-on experience with API, UI, and/or mobile test automation using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Appium, REST Assured, or equivalent.
Experience working with REST APIs and tools such as Postman, REST Assured, or similar.
Working knowledge of Git and CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent.
Solid understanding of testing fundamentals, including test design, exploratory testing, regression testing, defect management, and risk-based thinking.
Basic understanding of web applications, mobile applications, microservices, or cloud-based systems.
Basic familiarity with software quality signals such as static analysis, code-quality checks, logs, metrics, traces, and dashboards.
Ability to write clear tests, investigate failures, debug issues, and communicate defects effectively.
A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with developers, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders.
Curiosity about AI-assisted engineering and a responsible approach to using AI tools in testing and software development.
Nice to haveExperience with both UI and API automation, including test isolation, determinism, and maintainability.
Experience with mobile automation tools such as Appium, Espresso, XCUITest, BrowserStack, or equivalent.
Exposure to test data management, mocking, service virtualisation, contract testing, or observability.
Exposure to SonarQube or equivalent static-analysis and code-quality tools.
Exposure to accessibility, performance, security, resilience, cross-browser, or mobile compatibility testing.
Experience improving test suites, CI feedback, quality signals, or developer tooling.
Exposure to evaluating AI-enabled or LLM-based features, including prompt variations, output quality, safety, reliability, and regression testing.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, containers, or distributed-system debugging.
