Description

Role Description We are seeking a Full Stack Engineer, Back-End Lean to own the services, APIs, and the data and compute plumbing that the design engine and the interface both rely on. You will touch the whole stack, but the services and the platform internals are yours. You take work off the plates of our spacecraft engineers so they can stay on the deep platform R&D only they can do. So the boundaries are clear from day one: you build the product that runs on our platform. You do not own the delivery pipeline or the cloud environment itself. Our DevSecOps engineer owns CI/CD, GovCloud deployment mechanics, container publishing, and the security controls baked into the pipeline. You write well-tested code that flows through that pipeline; you partner with them; you do not duplicate them. Most back-end jobs are moving JSON between a database and a web page. This one is the platform that designs spacecraft. The hard problems are real: turning physics into reliable software, scaling heavy simulation, keeping outputs auditable enough to fly. The codebase is young enough that your architecture will define it. If you want your code to end up designing spacecraft that fly, this is the seat. Key Responsibilities. Services and APIs Design, build, and harden the back-end services that power the engine Own the API layer that the interface and external consumers depend on clean contracts, versioning, documentation Turn proof-of-concept platform logic into tested, maintainable, production-grade code Data and compute Own how compute-heavy CAD, simulation, and optimization workloads are structured and scaled Build the data model and storage that back designs, digital twins, and manufacturing packages Enforce reproducibility and traceability so an engineering output can be audited Full-stack glue Write the service-level and integration tests that let us ship without fear Partner with the front-end-leaning engineer so the UI and services evolve together Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience) 6+ years building production back-end systems, with strong Python Strong full-stack ability: you are back-end-leaning, not back-end-only, and you can work through the API into the front end when needed Deep experience designing and hardening APIs and services that other teams depend on A track record of taking a system from prototype or internal tool to production with real reliability requirements Solid grasp of data modelling and of scheduling or scaling compute-heavy work Based in Los Angeles or willing to relocate; this is an on-site role Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Must possess or be willing and eligible to obtain a security clearance. Desired Qualifications: Background in CAD, CAE, PLM, MBSE, simulation, EDA, or another computationally heavy engineering domain Experience with numerical or scientific computing Comfort turning research-grade code into production software without losing physics Interest in aerospace, spacecraft, or hard-engineering domains
