Position Summary Odyssey is seeking a skilled and dependable Principal IT Infrastructure Engineer! The Principal IT Infrastructure Engineer is a technical leader responsible for architecting, implementing, and optimizing enterprise infrastructure across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. This role provides expert-level engineering, drives modernization initiatives, ensures platform reliability and security, and mentors junior team members. The engineer works closely with IT leadership to shape long-term technology strategy and support critical business operations. Responsibilities Duties include, but not limited to: Architect, design, and implement scalable, resilient infrastructure solutions across compute, storage, networking, virtualization, and cloud platforms. Lead major infrastructure projects such as cloud migrations, infrastructure upgrades, network redesigns, and system modernization efforts. Serve as a subject matter expert for advanced troubleshooting and performance optimization across complex, multi-site environments. Strengthen security posture by implementing hardening standards, patching processes, identity management frameworks, and zero-trust practices. Oversee DR/BCP architecture, ensure recovery plans meet RTO/RPO objectives, and conduct regular failover testing. Support Windows Server environments on-prem and in cloud, including SQL server Develop automation workflows and infrastructure-as-code solutions (PowerShell, Python, Terraform, etc.) to reduce operational overhead. Evaluate new technologies, prepare recommendations, and contribute to multi-year infrastructure roadmaps. Maintain/rearchitect LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi and firewall infrastructure. Maintain firewall and VPN policies and configurations. Maintain and optimize virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper-V) and cloud services (Azure, AWS). Collaborate with cybersecurity and application teams to ensure cohesive and secure service delivery. Create detailed system documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks. Provide technical leadership to junior engineers and assist in establishing engineering standards and best practices. Qualifications Citizenship: Must be a US citizen Minimum Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field Years of Experience: 12+ years of experience Certifications: Industry certifications Preferred Qualifications Clearance: Secret level clearance Years of experience: 15+ years of experience Certifications: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS, VMware VCP/VCAP, Palo Alto Cisco CCNP, etc. Technical Skills Deep expertise in networking, firewall, VPN to include NetGate, PFSense, Ubiquity, Cisco, Palo Alto, Sonic Wall, etc. Deep expertise in Windows Server systems, virtualization, enterprise storage, and networking technologies. Advanced experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred), hybrid connectivity, identity services, and cloud governance. Advanced expertise in backup and disaster recovery including VEEAM, AvePoint and Zerto. Strong knowledge of security best practices, SIEM, endpoint management, and compliance frameworks. Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-level projects and cross-functional initiatives. Proficiency in automation, orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
