LOCATION: Glasgow Pacific Quay or Salford Dock House or London Broadcasting House – 1 day a week Hybrid
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £63,000 - £68,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
You’ll be working on the Mobile Enablement team, helping to provide tools, infrastructure and assistance to support teams building the BBC’s mobile apps for iOS and Android.
As a Senior Software Engineer you’ll play a key role building, maintaining and acquiring systems and services to help other BBC mobile teams build faster and align on technology and processes.
You will accelerate the team by mentoring colleagues, as well as engaging with teams across the organisation.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
Developing and maintaining systems and infrastructure to support mobile app development within the BBC Working through the product lifecycle from requirements through to release and ongoing support, with an emphasis on working closely with internal stakeholders in the mobile app space.
Participate in agile practices code reviews and other measures to contribute to a culture of openness, quality and continuous improvement Liaising with colleagues in teams across the organisation to gather requirements, provide support, troubleshoot Supporting the systems provided by our team and responding to incoming requests from colleagues
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Technical Insight (Cloud technologies): Experience and expertise building in AWS, including CodeBuild, CodePipeline, EC2, Lambda, Docker, Cloudwatch Supporting production systems: Experience and knowledge of supporting systems and concerns such as reliability, monitoring, dealing with live incidents and conducting Post Incident Reviews Quality coding practices: such as testing, security concerns, meaningful PR feedback, and appropriate documentation for different audiences Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to collaborate with a broad range of colleagues, technical and non-technical, both within a team and across other internal organisation clients.
Team Building: Experience Mentoring more junior colleagues, improving team processes and contributing to building high-performing teams

Technical Insight (Mobile Apps): Knowledge and experience of native mobile app development Technical Insight(MacOS build machines): Using MacOS as a CI build environment Technical Insight(GCP): Google Cloud Platform administration including Firebase Technical Insight(CI/CD): CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions Expertise in one or more languages commonly used in AWS development such as Python including relevant experience of automated testing
