Front-End Web Developer

Position Summary The Eclipse Foundation is seeking a Front-End Web Developer to join our Software Development team and help build and maintain the web platforms, reusable components, and tools that support the Eclipse Foundation and its communities. This is an existing role on the team. You will work on a range of public-facing websites and web applications, as well as shared front-end infrastructure used across our web properties. This includes developing reusable components, integrating with REST APIs, maintaining our component library, improving existing websites and applications, and helping establish consistent front-end development practices. You will work closely with other developers and internal stakeholders in a geographically distributed team. Much of our work is developed in the open, and we value pragmatic solutions, maintainable code, good documentation, and continuous improvement. Our team is remote-first, collaborative, and passionate about open source. Salary Range: $65,000 to $85,000 CAD / €40,000 to €50,000 Location: This is a remote position. The selected candidate will work from their home office. ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain reusable front-end components and libraries used across Eclipse Foundation websites and applicationsContribute to the evolution and maintenance of our front-end design system and component libraryDevelop responsive, accessible, and standards-compliant user interfacesBuild and maintain front-end applications and reusable components that integrate with REST APIs and work across different web platforms and frameworksWrite clean, maintainable, and testable JavaScript and TypeScript codeDevelop and maintain automated tests for front-end components and applicationsDocument components, development patterns, APIs, and technical decisionsReview code and contribute to shared development standards and best practicesCollaborate with designers, developers, and internal stakeholders to understand requirements and develop appropriate solutionsWork with stakeholders and other developers to prioritise requests, clarify requirements, and balance competing needsDiagnose and resolve front-end defects, performance issues, and browser compatibility problemsImprove web accessibility, performance, search engine optimisation, and overall user experienceContribute improvements and fixes to open source projects used by the Eclipse Foundation when appropriateEvaluate new technologies and recommend their adoption when they provide clear benefits Required Skills and ExperienceAt least two years of professional web development experienceStrong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end development practicesExperience developing applications with ReactExperience with TypeScriptExperience designing and developing reusable UI componentsExperience integrating applications with REST APIsExperience writing automated tests and testable front-end codeUnderstanding of responsive web design and modern browser standardsUnderstanding of web accessibility principles and practicesFamiliarity with Git and collaborative development workflows using platforms such as GitHub or GitLabAbility to troubleshoot front-end issues using browser development toolsAbility to write clear technical documentation AssetsExperience with component development and documentation tools such as StorybookExperience developing or maintaining a design system or shared component libraryExperience with Web Components and libraries such as Lit or StencilExperience with BootstrapExperience with Sass or other CSS preprocessing toolsExperience with static site generators such as HugoFamiliarity with PHP and experience working with content management systems such as Drupal or WordPressKnowledge of search engine optimisationExperience with modern front-end build tools and the Node.js/npm ecosystemExperience with continuous integration and automated deployment workflowsExperience with visual regression, end-to-end, or accessibility testingFamiliarity with Java and Java-based backend applicationsFamiliarity with relational databasesExperience contributing to open source projects Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
