AI Agent Engineer

Are you an experienced AI Engineer, AI Agent Engineer or Software Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Generative AI? Do you want to build the next generation of intelligent AI agents that can reason, interact with systems, retrieve information and autonomously support complex business processes? We are looking for an experienced professional to help design and build AI Agent solutions within a large and technically complex organisation. This is not a junior or entry-level role. You should already have demonstrable experience building applications with LLMs, Generative AI, agentic workflows or comparable AI technologies. The Role As an AI Agent Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing intelligent AI solutions that go beyond traditional chatbots. You will build AI agents that can understand context, reason over information, use tools and APIs, retrieve relevant data and execute actions within defined processes. You will work on the complete architecture of agentic solutions, from experimentation and prompt engineering through to integration, deployment, monitoring and optimisation. The goal is to create AI agents that are not only impressive in a demonstration, but are reliable, secure, scalable and genuinely useful in production environments. What You Will Do Design and develop AI agents and agentic workflows.Build applications using LLMs and Generative AI.Develop systems where AI agents can interact with APIs, databases, applications and enterprise systems.Design tool-calling and function-calling capabilities.Develop Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions.Work with vector databases, embeddings and semantic search.Develop multi-step reasoning and workflow orchestration.Experiment with different LLMs and determine which models are appropriate for specific use cases.Improve prompts, context management, agent behaviour and response quality.Build evaluation frameworks to measure AI agent performance, reliability and accuracy.Integrate AI agents into existing software and data environments.Implement appropriate security, governance and access controls.Work with development, data, cloud and architecture teams to bring AI solutions into production.Monitor and continuously improve deployed AI agents.Translate business challenges into practical AI-agent solutions. What We Are Looking For We are specifically looking for an experienced AI professional with proven hands-on experience in Generative AI and/or AI agent development. You should have: 3+ years of relevant professional experience in AI Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, Software Engineering with a strong AI focus, or a comparable position.Demonstrable hands-on experience working with LLMs and Generative AI.Experience building AI agents, agentic workflows or LLM-powered applications.Strong Python development skills.Experience working with APIs and integrating AI solutions with external systems.Solid understanding of RAG, embeddings, vector search and semantic retrieval.Experience with prompt engineering and context management.Experience with LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel or comparable technologies.Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.Understanding of software engineering principles, testing, version control and CI/CD.Experience taking AI solutions from proof of concept into production.Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders.
