Role Overview
eNGINE is seeking a Python Developer to join a small, collaborative technology team responsible for developing and rolling out a next-generation Point of Sale (POS) platform across a large network of retail locations.
This is a hands-on development role suited for someone with approximately 2–5 years of professional experience who enjoys working across both backend and frontend technologies.
You'll contribute to Python services, Angular applications, APIs, relational databases, automation, and deployment tooling.
You'll also work closely with Business Analysts and deployment specialists to understand real-world store operations and turn those needs into practical technology solutions.
When deployment activities are underway, you'll provide technical support and troubleshooting; between deployments, you'll focus on building and improving the applications behind the platform.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance during POS implementations and help ensure new locations are successfully brought onto the platform.Verify applications, databases, and supporting technology are configured correctly and functioning as expected during deployments.Diagnose issues reported by stores or deployment personnel and determine when more complex problems need to be escalated to the development team.Work with SQL-based data supporting POS configuration, store information, and deployment activities.Analyze application and database information to identify inconsistencies, troubleshoot problems, and support operational decisions.Partner with Business Analysts to turn business requirements and store workflows into effective software solutions.Assist with demonstrations, prototypes, training utilities, and other tools that help end users understand and adopt new functionality.Develop and enhance Python-based backend services, APIs, scripts, and automation.Build and maintain Angular applications used by store personnel and internal teams.Participate in testing, QA, validation, and troubleshooting throughout development and deployment cycles.Write maintainable, well-organized code and participate in peer reviews.Develop and maintain Jenkins jobs supporting application deployments, log collection, analysis, and other operational processes.Use Git and CI/CD practices to support reliable software delivery.Contribute to additional applications and capabilities as the organization's technology platform continues to expand.
Qualifications
2–5 years of professional experience in software development, application support, QA, or a related technical discipline.Strong hands-on experience with Python for backend development, scripting, or automation.Professional experience with Angular and modern web application development.Solid understanding of relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar platforms.Ability to write SQL, navigate relational data structures, and understand how application data is stored and accessed.Experience working with RESTful APIs and application integrations.Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a small, fast-moving team.Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience
Experience developing or supporting Point of Sale, retail, warehouse, inventory, distribution, or enterprise applications.Exposure to applications deployed across multiple physical locations.Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines.Hands-on experience with Jenkins.Familiarity with deployment automation, application logging, and technical troubleshooting in production environments.Experience working with retail or building materials operations is a plus.Understanding of store-level workflows, inventory processes, or other distributed operational environments is beneficial.
