Description
We are looking for a Lead ArcGIS DevOps Engineer to join and strengthen our growing GIS Platform & DevOps team.
This role will partner closely with another Lead GIS DevOps Engineer and a GIS Engineering Manager to design, operate, and evolve our ArcGIS Enterprise platform, running on a customized AWS EKS (Kubernetes) environment.
This position is ideal for a an engineer who enjoys hands-on technical leadership, owning complex problem areas, and collaborating with peers to deliver reliable, scalable GIS platform.
You will have significant influence over architecture, standards, and operational practices while helping mentor and enable a broader engineering team as it scales.
Requirements
Strong hands-on experience operating ArcGIS Enterprise in production environments.Experience running enterprise workloads on AWS, ideally with EKS / Kubernetes exposure.Experience deploying or operating ArcGIS on Kubernetes or containerized platforms.Solid understanding of Linux, networking, and cloud security fundamentals.Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation.Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for operations and tooling.Experience working in collaborative, multi-engineer environments with shared ownership.Excellent communication skills and comfort working across organizational boundaries.
Nice to Have:
Familiarity with Helm, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, or similar tools.Experience operating or scaling enterprise-grade platforms.Observability experience (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, etc.).Background in geospatial data workflows or enterprise GIS use cases.
Job responsibilities
ArcGIS Enterprise Platform
Lead the design, configuration, upgrading, and lifecycle management of ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal, ArcGIS Server, Data Store, Web Adaptors).Share ownership of platform reliability, performance, security, and scalability, including HA and DR design.Establish and evolve best practices for authentication, authorization, certificate management, and licensing.Act as a technical authority for ArcGIS Enterprise in partnership with the other Lead.
DevOps, Cloud & Kubernetes
Design and operate ArcGIS Enterprise on a customized AWS EKS (Kubernetes) platform.Define and implement Infrastructure as Code and environment standards (e.g., Terraform, Helm).Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for platform deployments, upgrades, and configuration management.Partner with cloud and platform teams to align on Kubernetes architecture, security, and observability standards.
Automation & Operations
Drive an automation-first approach across provisioning, upgrades, scaling, backup, and recovery.Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards.Contribute to and maintain runbooks, operational documentation, and incident response processes.Proactively identify opportunities to reduce operational toil and improve platform resilience.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
Provide hands-on technical leadership within the GIS DevOps team, mentoring senior engineers and supporting their growth.Collaborate closely with: The peer Lead GIS DevOps Engineer The GIS Engineering Manager Application, data, and analytics teamsTake ownership of specific technical domains or initiatives, while aligning with shared team standards and goals.
