We are looking for: DevOps Software Engineer
Job Overview
The DevOps Software Engineer owns the tooling, pipelines, and processes that move code from commit to release.
This role manages version control systems, builds and maintains CI/CD infrastructure, coordinates the software release process, and partners with engineering teams and external IT to keep delivery reliable, automated, and well documented.
More broadly, the DevOps Software Engineer develops strategies to manage the development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software applications and infrastructure, applying a consistent DevOps approach to optimize service delivery and ensure end-to-end quality across every phase of the lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Version Control & Source Code Management
Manage and maintain version control systems (Git, Gerrit, Perforce), including branching strategy, access controls, and repository health.Establish and enforce best practices for code merging, tagging, and history management across engineering teams.CI/CD & Build Automation
Develop, maintain, and monitor Jenkins-based CI/CD pipelines and tools.Oversee and resolve issues in CI/CD infrastructure promptly to minimize build and deployment downtime.Monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and continuously improve building, packaging, and deployment processes.Continuously improve pipeline reliability, build times, and test automation integration.Release & Configuration Management
Coordinate the software release process end-to-end to ensure timely and efficient delivery.Handle release management, deployment pipelines, and configuration baselines across environments.Maintain versioning and configuration standards to ensure builds are reproducible and traceable, including upgrades management across tools and environments.Automation & Containerization
Implement automation and containerization using Docker to streamline build, test, and deployment workflows.Implement automated infrastructure capabilities in support of pipeline and release reliability, including backups, security tooling, and system monitoring.Identify manual, repetitive processes across the development lifecycle and automate them where possible.Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate closely with technical teams and stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve ongoing technical issues.Provide regular updates on release status, issues, and resolutions to engineering leadership and stakeholders.Work with external IT teams to ensure Eagle Wireless has the right services — including network, database, cloud, and data center services — to support engineering operations.Documentation & Process Improvement
Write clear documentation (guides, runbooks, presentations) for pipelines, release processes, and tooling for future reference and training.Onboard and train engineering team members on DevOps tools, processes, and best practices as needed.Identify and drive software process improvement opportunities across the development and release lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience in a DevOps, Build & Release, or Software Configuration Management role.Hands-on experience administering version control systems, specifically Git, Gerrit, and/or Perforce.Demonstrated experience building, maintaining, and monitoring Jenkins-based CI/CD pipelines and tools.Practical experience with Docker and containerized build/deployment workflows.Solid understanding of release management principles, including versioning, configuration baselines, and environment promotion.Comfortable working directly with engineering teams and stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve ongoing technical issues under time pressure.Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear documentation (guides, presentations) and regular status updates for both technical and non-technical audiences.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with additional version control systems such as Bitbucket, SVN, or CVS.Experience with additional deployment/configuration management tools such as Maven, Puppet, or Ansible.Experience with programming and scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Bash, PHP, Java, SQL, or C++.Strong knowledge of Linux and/or Windows operating systems.Working understanding of AWS and other cloud computing services.Familiarity with network infrastructure, database management systems, cloud and data center operations, and security protocols.Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, or similar).Experience supporting embedded, firmware, or hardware-adjacent software development environments.Knowledge of artifact repositories and package management tools (Artifactory, Nexus, or similar).Experience working with external IT vendors or managed service providers to scope and implement infrastructure or tooling solutions.Familiarity with bug tracking and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) software (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps).Experience implementing automated security engineering practices and backup/recovery capabilities.
Work Environment & Location
This position is based in British Columbia, Canada, with remote/hybrid flexibility as determined by team needs.Occasional off-hours availability may be required to support critical releases or resolve urgent pipeline/infrastructure issues.Close, ongoing collaboration with engineering teams and external IT partners is a core part of daily work.
