Software Engineer III

C.H. Robinson is seeking a Software Engineer III to join our Transactional Revenue Management team, responsible for building and evolving a platform that delivers competitive, near-real-time pricing for shipping customers. In this role, you will partner closely with engineers, data scientists, and analysts to design and deliver scalable systems for cost estimation, pricing strategy configuration, and data-driven insights. You will take ownership of building scalable and modular near real-time systems that can be rapidly reconfigured and extended to match evolving business needs and creating experimentation workflows and tools to rapidly test hypotheses. This role emphasizes distributed system design, cloud-native development, and data-intensive applications, with a growing focus on AI-assisted and agentic solution development. This Role can be based only in MN, IL and Kansas City Duties& Responsibilities: Design and deliver high-complexity, scalable solutions supporting near real-time decisioning systemsArchitect and evolve distributed systems, including:Microservices and RESTful APIsEvent-driven and streaming architecturesHybrid data storage strategies (relational and NoSQL)Collaborate with architects and cross-functional teams to influence and evolve system architectureIndependently drive system design decisions, balancing scalability, reliability, performance, and costBuild and maintain applications using Python (backend services, data pipelines) and React (frontend user experiences)Develop and operate cloud-native solutions in Azure leveraging KubernetesDesign and implement data workflows using Airflow or DAG-based orchestration frameworksWork across modern data ecosystems, including:MongoDB or similar NoSQL systemsSnowflake or comparable analytical data platformsOwn services and repositories end-to-end, ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainabilityBreak down complex initiatives, guide estimation and delivery timelines, and proactively manage execution risksImplement strong testing strategies (unit, integration, and end-to-end) and maintain high standards for code qualityLeverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate engineering workflows and improve code qualityContribute to agentic and intelligent automation solutions, enabling adaptive and decision-driven workflowsPartner with data scientists and analysts to productionize models and support experimentation frameworksApply statistical thinking or data science concepts to improve system effectiveness (where applicable)Build strong, collaborative relationships across engineering, product, data, and architecture teamsActively contribute to and lead design discussions and code reviewsMentor and support other engineers, promoting best practices and continuous improvementProvide clear communication on progress, risks, and technical decisionsContribute to planning, prioritization, and delivery execution across the team Required Qualifications: 5+ years of experience designing and delivering production-grade software5+ years of experience with Python and backend service development5+ years of experience with React or modern frontend frameworksExperience building cloud-native applications (Azure preferred) with KubernetesExperience with modern data technologies, including MongoDB (or similar) and Snowflake (or equivalent)Experience with data pipelines and workflow orchestration (e.g., Airflow)Experience designing and consuming APIs and distributed systemsFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practicesAbility to independently own and deliver complex features or servicesExperience using AI-assisted development tools and building intelligent workflows (e.g. Copilot)Experience on agentic or LLM-based frameworks (LangChain/LangSmith, or similar agent frameworks) and orchestration toolingBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) Preferred Qualifications: Experience partnering with data science teams to deliver production modelsBackground in statistical modeling, experimentation, or data-driven decision systemsExperience in pricing, logistics, or other high-scale transactional systemsStrong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and product decisionsDemonstrated ability to mentor engineers and contribute to team growthExperience with monitoring tools (ex. Compensation Range $102,700.00 - $231,100.00 The base pay range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum base pay for the position across all U.S. locations.
