About this role
Anzenna (security startup, Redwood City) is hiring a junior backend Software Engineer who wants real customer impact, not just backlog tickets.
You'll build integrations and custom detections in Go/Python/TypeScript, work directly with customer security teams during onboarding, and fold what you learn back into the platform.
This is a real engineering role: not pre-sales, and not a live-at-the-customer FDE gig.
Great fit for an early-career engineer who wants ownership and customer exposure, or a security analyst who codes and wants to move into engineering.
Direct access to both co-founders.
Why candidates should join
Top-of-market pay for the level: $140K - $180K + Competitive equity (base + equity higher for exceptional candidates).
Hybrid, real balance: 3 days/week in Redwood City, 2 remote.
Customer exposure without living on-site.
Real engineering, not pre-sales: ship integrations and custom detections in Go/Python/TypeScript to production from month one.
Not ticket triage, not demos.
Your work moves the product in days: what you hear on a customer call becomes a merged PR the same week.
Learn directly from operators: founding team shipped security products at Google, Atlassian, Yahoo, and Microsoft; backed by 8VC.
You work with both co-founders, not through layers.
Hot wedge, real depth: insider risk + AI agents running investigations, 100+ enterprise integrations (Okta, CrowdStrike, Slack), and a rare on-ramp for security analysts to cross into a true engineering seat
Requirements
Seniority
Required: 1 - 4 years of experience backend-leaning engineering
Work experience
Must have: Junior software engineer (startup preferred) who has worked directly with customers — or shows strong evidence they want customer-facing work
Required: Must mention security in the resume - either interest / experience.
It cannot be empty words.
Alternately: security analyst (SOC, insider threat, DLP, IAM) who codes, with hands-on scripting/automation on the job, looking to move into engineering
Nice to have: Customer-facing technical role at a security vendor — Customer Success Engineer, Solutions Engineer/Architect, Support or Deployment Engineer
Hard skills
Must have: Writes real code in at least one of Go, Python, or TypeScript — enough to build a script or debug an integration.
Fast learner or strong foundation both pass.
Soft skills
Must have: Fluent spoken English.
The role involves constant direct customer conversations and live analysis of their use cases.
Required: Speaks with structure and a point.
Gets to the answer without looping.
Doesn't fill air when they don't know.
When probed, they either have a substantive take or say "I don't know", not both dressed up as one.
Miscellaneous
Required: Bay Area, hybrid.
Occasional customer-site travel — this is not a live-at-the-customer FDE role
Traits to avoid
Avoid: Pure IC engineer with no customer exposure and no interest in getting some
Avoid: Non-technical Customer Success Manager or career pre-sales with no shipped code
Avoid: Senior FDE profiles - this a junior role
Avoid: Blanket answer on why they want to join Anzenna.
Answers like "Wants impact, high agency, ownership " reads the same for joining EVERY company in the planet.
We prefer either not seeing this mentioned, or there is a reason specific to Anzenna.
A generic answer is worse than not having an answer.
