🚀 Tier 2 AWS Platform Operations Engineer
📍 Melbourne CBD | Hybrid – 2–3 days per week in the office
💼 Permanent, Full-Time (Financial Services Company)
💰 $100K–$115K base + super (maximum $115K base + super)
We’re looking for a Tier 2 AWS Platform Operations Engineer to join our team, with a primary focus on advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, remediation, and AWS platform reliability.
As a Tier 2 engineer, you’ll act as an escalation point for complex incidents, taking ownership of issues from Tier 1 through to resolution while proactively improving platform reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Take ownership of escalated incidents and perform deep-dive AWS infrastructure and application troubleshooting.Develop automation using CloudFormation, Lambda and CI/CD pipelines to reduce manual intervention.Enhance monitoring and observability using Splunk, Honeycomb and OpenTelemetry.Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), document findings and implement preventative measures.Collaborate with DevOps, application and security teams to maintain compliance and performance.Mentor Tier 1 engineers on troubleshooting techniques and best practices.
Minimum Requirements:
AWS Certification – SysOps or higher strongly preferred.Strong Infrastructure as Code experience, particularly CloudFormation.Proficiency with GitHub, with Bitbucket/Bamboo experience a plus.Hands-on experience with Splunk, Honeycomb and OpenTelemetry.Ability to troubleshoot under pressure during major incidents and lead technical bridges.
Desired Experience:
CloudFormation troubleshooting, including stack failures, drift detection and rollback handling.Strong knowledge of IAM policies, S3 bucket policies and AWS security best practices.Advanced CloudWatch experience, including metrics, alarms, LogGroups and custom dashboards.AWS microservices including ECS Fargate, Lambda and API Gateway.Scripting/programming experience with Python, Shell or Node.js.Strong networking knowledge covering OSI, VPCs, routing, NAT gateways and DNS.Experience with CloudFront and WAF.
Nice to Have:
CloudTrail analysis for security and compliance.VPC Flow Logs troubleshooting and network packet analysis.IAM AssumeRole, STS Tokens, Secrets Manager and SSM automation.AWS performance tuning experience.
