Responsibilities Review assigned GitHub issues, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and technical documentation Develop features and bug fixes for the Community Site Report and other EcoServants software Create a separate GitHub branch for each assigned issue and avoid working directly on the main branch Work with PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, WordPress, and MySQL according to assignment requirements Submit pull requests with clear descriptions, testing notes, screenshots, and lists of modified files Test changes on desktop and mobile devices before requesting review Improve accessibility, usability, validation, performance, data handling, and technical documentation Coordinate shared-file changes with other contributors to reduce merge conflicts Respond to manager and reviewer feedback before work is approved or merged Use the Intern Portal to claim assignments, submit deliverables, and review feedback Attend the weekly Tech Development meeting and communicate progress, blockers, and next steps Outcomes Experience contributing to an active GitHub repository through branches and pull requests Practical development experience with WordPress, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, databases, and responsive interfaces Familiarity with issue-based development, dependencies, testing, code review, and release workflows Portfolio-ready contributions to environmental technology used by a nonprofit organization Experience collaborating asynchronously through GitHub and the EcoServants Intern Portal Interns who complete the 4 month program receive a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation Qualifications Strong foundational knowledge in Computer Science and Software Development. Experience or coursework in Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).Interest or experience in Back-End Web Development, including working with APIs and databases.Ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply them to real-world projects.Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate in a remote team environment.Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.Interest in environmental stewardship, sustainability, or social impact technology is beneficial. Please note: this is an unpaid internship. The length of the internship is 4 months, however, you are more than welcome to extend. Upon completion of the program, EcoServants will issue you a graduation certificate as well as letter of recommendation to help you secure full or part time paid employment.
