Description
About BioScout
BioScout built the world's first automated system for detecting airborne crop disease.
Our traps sample the air on farms every day.
Our platform analyses those samples and shows growers and agronomists the disease pressure building in their crop, well before it becomes visible.
That supports one of the most important decisions in a season: whether to spray, and when.
Condition-based spraying means fewer wasted passes, less chemicals, and fewer crops lost.
We are well established across Australia and New Zealand, and already working with customers in Europe, Latin America and Africa.
Our focus now is expanding into new industries and new markets, and taking the product further.
The Role
We are a small, multidisciplinary engineering team, and we are looking for our next full stack engineer.
That means real scope.
Some days you will be optimising our API or improving our infrastructure and CI/CD.
Other days you will be building interfaces in React for customers or for the team internally.
You will see your work go from an idea to something running on farms, and you will have a genuine say in how it gets built.
If you like owning things end to end and want your work to matter to the people using it, you will enjoy it here.
What you will be doing
Building across the stack
Designing and building solutions end to end: the data model, the REST API in C# .NET, the infrastructure, and the React and TypeScript interfaces our customers useMaintaining and improving our platform API and our internal and customer-facing frontendsHelping shape our infrastructure and CI/CD as the platform grows
Owning outcomes
Taking a problem from a business need through to something shipped, monitored and working in the fieldBreaking requirements down into pieces the team can deliver togetherMaking sensible product calls when the answer is not obvious.
Much of what we build has not been built before
Raising the bar together
Writing code that is clean, tested and easy for the next person to pick upTaking part in code reviews and technical discussions, and helping the whole team get betterWorking closely with our Mechatronics, Data and ML engineers on the performance, scalability and reliability of our platform
What a successful candidate looks like
You will enjoy this role if most of this sounds like you.
If you are close to some of it and excited about the rest, we would still like to hear from you.
You have built and supported production services in C# .NET, and you enjoy thinking about the data model and the system design as much as the code.
Around three years or more. You are comfortable in React, TypeScript, and can build an interface people find easy to use.You have worked hands-on with cloud infrastructure and CI/CD.You have seen something you built run in production, including the times it did not go to plan, and you took the learnings forward.
Alongside that, we value clear communication, a bias for shipping without dropping quality, and genuine care for the people using what you build.
Also great to have: AWS and infrastructure as code, Azure DevOps, Entity Framework Core or depth in another ORM, platform API design, experience alongside data or ML teams

It lets us move quickly and spend more of our time on building the product and getting the quality right.
