Description

About the Role We are looking for an OSS Automation Engineer to join an international engineering and technology organization developing advanced connectivity and network infrastructure solutions. The company operates in a highly innovative environment where software, telecommunications, cloud infrastructure, and distributed network systems come together. The engineering teams are focused on building and operating next-generation connectivity platforms designed to support large-scale commercial and critical communications services. This position will be based within the company's engineering center in Latvia and will take primary ownership of network and ground-segment lifecycle automation. The role focuses on building and operating production automation that executes real operational processes, including zero-touch provisioning, site and service acceptance before commercial traffic is enabled, in-service configuration management and drift detection, and fault and alarm handling. A defining characteristic of this role is the opportunity to bridge operational domains that currently depend on manual coordination between multiple teams and systems, transforming them into governed and automated workflows. Key Responsibilities Build, develop, and deploy internal automation processes within the OSS platform, including provisioning automation, configuration management, fault and alarm handling automation, cross-domain orchestration, and system integration.Translate architectural specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and functional and non-functional requirements into clean, well-tested, production-ready code.Write modular and maintainable software following team coding standards, with appropriate documentation and code comments.Implement and maintain integration tests, regression suites, and performance benchmarks for developed software components.Participate in design and code reviews, providing and receiving constructive technical feedback.Support system-level integration testing to ensure delivered software meets defined acceptance criteria.Work within the team's agile delivery process, contributing to sprint planning, maintaining backlog hygiene, and delivering consistently against milestone commitments.Maintain technical documentation, including component specifications, API contracts, test results, and operational runbooks.Engage with internal engineering and operational teams to clarify requirements, validate assumptions, and ensure delivered software meets operational needs.Qualifications Education Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Experience A minimum of 3+ years of professional experience in network or business process automation, or in a combined network and software engineering role within a live-network operational environment. Proven experience building production automation and orchestration workflows that execute real operational processes, rather than exclusively test or CI/CD automation.Hands-on experience with at least one of Temporal, Apache Airflow, or AWS Step Functions for sequencing multi-step, stateful, or long-running workflows.Strong proficiency in Python or Go for automation and integration logic.Experience with network configuration automation tooling such as Ansible, Netmiko, NAPALM, or vendor-specific APIs.Working knowledge of event-driven integration using Kafka and Protobuf.Working knowledge of AWS fundamentals, including compute, networking, VPN/Transit Gateway, and managed streaming services.Understanding of FCAPS concepts and alarm/fault management models, including standards such as ITU-T X.733.Practical experience instrumenting automation using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or equivalent technologies.English proficiency at B2 level or above, with the ability to collaborate effectively with peers and architects in a globally distributed team.Soft Skills Bridge-builder mindset: Comfortable being the person who turns a process spanning multiple teams and systems into a single governed and automated pipeline.High ownership: Takes end-to-end accountability for automation, from initial design through live operation, including handling failures and operational issues.Sound judgment on automation boundaries: Understands which operational decisions genuinely require human involvement and which can be effectively automated, rather than automating everything indiscriminately.Rigorous but pragmatic: Applies the same discipline to acceptance and go-live automation as to a live network incident, recognizing that both can carry significant operational consequences.Technology Stack AWS Step FunctionsTemporalApache AirflowPython or GoAnsibleNetmiko / NAPALMVendor-specific network APIsRESTgRPCTMF Open APIsKafka / ProtobufAWS MSKOpenTelemetryPrometheusGrafanaAWS EC2AWS LambdaAWS Step FunctionsAWS MSKAWS VPN / Transit GatewayGitAzure DevOps CIJiraConfluenceMarkdownMermaidPlantUMLPhysical Requirements Ability to work in a standard office or remote home-office environment and use a computer for extended periods.Ability to participate in occasional after-hours incident response activities.
