Job Title: Senior Backend Python Developer Duration: 18 Month W2 Contract Location: Jersey City | NYC Required Pay Scale: $60-$70/hour Senior Backend Python Developer – Global Markets SurveillancePosition OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Backend Python Developer to support a high-profile Global Markets Supervisory and Surveillance program within a major financial institution. The team is working on a large-scale Operational Excellence (OpEx) initiative, which represents approximately one-third of the organization’s funding for the year. The primary focus will be the retirement of an existing vendor surveillance platform and the migration/consolidation of its functionality into an enterprise supervisory platform. This is a critical, high-visibility initiative spanning multiple lines of business, with significant backend development, frontend integration, alert generation, and business-user interaction. The ideal candidate will have strong Python and REST API development experience, with a predominantly backend background and experience working with both relational and object-oriented/object databases. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and enhance backend applications and services using Python.Build and maintain REST APIs supporting global markets supervisory and surveillance capabilities.Contribute to the migration and consolidation of functionality from a legacy/vendor surveillance platform into a centralized supervisory platform.Develop functionality supporting alerts, surveillance workflows, monitoring, and supervisory processes.Work across multiple lines of business and collaborate closely with technology, product, compliance, risk, and business stakeholders.Support frontend teams by providing reliable backend services and APIs.Work with both relational and object-oriented/object databases.Participate in application enhancements, implementations, migrations, upgrades, and platform modernization initiatives.Investigate and resolve production issues and incoming support requests.Contribute to audit remediation and regulatory-related technology initiatives, including self-identified and audit-identified items.Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.Participate in code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.Work in an Agile/enterprise development environment and communicate effectively with technical and business teams.Required Skills & ExperienceTop 3 RequirementsPython – Strong hands-on development experience.REST APIs – Experience designing, developing, and integrating RESTful services.Backend Development – Strong backend engineering experience with exposure to:Relational databasesObject-oriented/object databasesAPI development and service-oriented architecturesExperience Level6–15 years of professional software development experience.Strong experience taking ownership of backend development responsibilities and delivering enterprise-scale applications.Experience working on implementation, enhancement, migration, modernization, or upgrade projects.Preferred / Nice-to-Have ExperienceExperience within the financial services or capital markets industry.Experience supporting Global Markets, Fixed Income, Risk, Pricing, Trading, or Surveillance applications.Understanding of financial-market workflows and business processes.Experience developing applications that generate, process, or manage business and regulatory alerts.Experience working with different business users and translating their requirements into technology solutions.Quartz experience is a plus but not required.Experience with large financial institutions, major technology organizations, FAANG/FANG companies, or well-known fintech organizations is desirable.Project / Domain ExperienceCandidates with experience in any of the following areas are particularly relevant: Global Markets SurveillanceSupervisory platformsTrade or transaction monitoringFixed Income applicationsRisk applicationsPricing applicationsRegulatory technologyAlerting and monitoring platformsPlatform migration/consolidationLegacy platform retirementEnterprise application modernizationAudit remediationRegulatory implementationsKey AttributesStrong backend engineering mindsetExcellent Python development skillsAbility to work across multiple lines of businessComfortable working with high-volume alerts and critical applicationsStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting skillsAble to communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholdersComfortable working in a high-profile, fast-paced enterprise environmentAbility to work independently while collaborating across technology and business teamsWhy This RoleThis is a high-profile, business-critical initiative involving the consolidation of surveillance capabilities into a strategic supervisory platform.
