Senior Full Stack Software Engineer

HR WORKS Austria (formerly Bonrepublic) is a Vienna-based SaaS platform for talent and performance management. We help companies motivate, develop, and retain their people through modern feedback, recognition, goal-setting, and development tools. We are part of the HR WORKS Group and our platform is used by companies across the DACH region and beyond. We are looking for a senior engineer who is as comfortable digging into a user problem with Product, Sales, and Customer Success as designing and building the system that solves it. Someone who takes a user story from "we think this is the problem" to "it is live, adopted, and measured" – across backend, frontend, and everything in between. Tasks You own product problems from discovery through production by understanding users and their needs, shaping solutions with Product, UX, and Requirements Engineering, and building, testing, shipping, and monitoring them in production You contribute across the full stack using Python, Django, Django REST Framework, Django Ninja, and FastAPI on the backend, as well as React and TypeScript on the frontend with PostgreSQL as the database You break down complex problems into thin, vertically sliced increments that can be released independently, using trunk-based development, CI/CD, and feature toggles to deliver value early You make pragmatic technical decisions by applying Domain-Driven Design, Clean and Hexagonal Architecture, and modular monolith patterns where they add value, while introducing microservices and event-driven approaches only when their complexity is justified You use AI-assisted engineering tools and agents thoughtfully to improve delivery, testing, and maintenance, providing the right context, reviewing their output critically, and taking responsibility for production quality, security, and maintainability You raise the quality bar through practical TDD and Clean Code, meaningful code reviews, stronger observability, clear documentation, and the continuous reduction of technical debt as the product scales You lead through engineering practice by making and documenting significant technical decisions, supporting other engineers through pairing and code reviews, and helping the team improve how it works You collaborate closely in a value stream team with Product, UX/UI, Requirements Engineering, and QA, while working with the Agile Coach and Platform team to deliver valuable and maintainable solutions Requirements You bring solid professional experience in software engineering, with strong Python and Django skills and practical experience with React and TypeScript You take ownership of production software across its lifecycle, from shaping solutions to operating and improving them after release You think beyond requirements, understand users and business context, and suggest better solutions where appropriate You make pragmatic decisions about architecture, APIs, and testing, favouring simple and maintainable solutions You design reliable RESTful APIs and use automated tests to support safe, frequent delivery You use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully and understand their strengths and limitations You communicate clearly, work well with technical and non-technical colleagues, and are fluent in English; German is a plus Benefits An established company with flat hierarchies and a start-up mindset A corporate culture where you’re encouraged to have your say and where collaboration is a pleasure Access to state-of-the-art AI tools and active support for developing AI skills to make your day-to-day work more efficient Challenging tasks and exciting projects, complete with responsibility and a healthy approach to dealing with mistakes A dedicated team with extensive expertise and a good sense of humour 25 days holiday, up to 3 days remote working per week Further benefits such as bike leasing, OpenUp, a public transport allowance, vouchers and much more
