Overview Of The Role We are looking for a highly motivated individual to become a Lead Platform Engineer within our Digital Unit. The home office location is London, where you will join and become a key part of our global team and business. We are seeking a Platform Engineer to lead our UK platform engineering capability, based in London. This is a senior technical leadership role combining deep expertise in Azure/.NET and cloud-native platforms (Kubernetes) with strong stakeholder leadership and team development. You will act as the technical authority and leader across the UK, shaping platform strategy, harmonising engineering practices, and enabling high-quality, scalable digital delivery. You will lead the development and evolution of our internal platform ecosystem, ensuring it is secure, scalable, and developer centric. You will take full ownership of complex technical domains, influence senior stakeholders, and drive both strategic direction and hands-on technical excellence. Key responsibilities and duties include: Lead Platform Engineering in the UK: Stand up and own the UK platform engineering capability, acting as the central point for technical leadership and alignment across product teamsDefine Platform Strategy & Architecture: Set and drive the technical vision for the platform (Azure, Kubernetes, cloud-native), ensuring alignment with business goals and global practicesAct as Technical Authority: Provide deep technical leadership, solving complex platform challenges and guiding architectural decisions across teamsBuild & Evolve Platform Services: Design and continuously improve internal platform services (CI/CD, infrastructure, observability), treating the platform as a product with clear outcomesDrive Engineering Standards & Best Practices: Establish consistent patterns for security, scalability, and delivery, including Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, and SRE principlesEnable & Influence Delivery Teams: Work closely with product, engineering, and architecture stakeholders to improve developer experience and accelerate deliveryLead, Mentor & Grow Teams: Develop a high-performing engineering culture through coaching, mentoring, and technical leadershipStakeholder Management & Technical Leadership: Engage senior stakeholders, challenge constructively (“joust”), and influence decisions through strong communication and credibility. Candidate specification We are looking for a highly credible technical leader who combines deep engineering expertise with strong leadership and emotional intelligence.
