Title: Senior Java Backend Engineer Location: Brooklyn Park, MN (Hybrid) Job Type: Contract (12 Months) Compensation: $62.59 - $93.98/hr Industry: Retail Work Schedule: Hybrid schedule with onsite work two days per week and remote work the remaining days. About The Role Our client, a leading retail and consumer-focused organization, is seeking a Senior Java Backend Engineer to help build and enhance the scalable systems that power enterprise-level digital experiences and data-driven solutions. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize microservices and APIs that support high-volume applications, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to modern cloud-based architectures. Job Description As a Senior Java Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining robust backend systems that support mission-critical applications. You will work closely with engineering, product, data, and analytics teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performing solutions. Responsibilities Include Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.Build and support microservices architectures that integrate with internal and external platforms.Develop and optimize RESTful APIs and system integrations.Work with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including BigQuery, to support data-driven applications and services.Collaborate with data engineering, data science, and product teams to deliver scalable solutions.Implement best practices for software development, security, performance, testing, and documentation.Troubleshoot and resolve issues within distributed systems and backend environments.Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards and processes.Leverage modern development tools and emerging technologies, including generative AI solutions, to improve application capabilities and developer efficiency. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Strong proficiency in Java and experience developing applications with Spring Boot.Experience working with Kafka and MongoDB in production environments.Deep knowledge of API development, RESTful services, and microservice architectures.Experience with system integrations and distributed backend systems.Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including BigQuery.Experience with NoSQL databases and data modeling for large-scale applications.Understanding of modern backend frameworks, software design patterns, and scalable architecture principles.Experience working within Agile software development environments.Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience supporting large-scale retail, e-commerce, or consumer-facing platforms.Familiarity with Apache Hadoop or other enterprise data platforms.Experience implementing or integrating generative AI (GenAI) technologies into applications or workflows.Experience with cloud-native architectures and containerized environments.Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practices.Experience designing highly available and fault-tolerant distributed systems.
