A senior engineering role focused on designing and improving high-performance infrastructure systems. The position requires strong C++ expertise, architectural thinking, and experience building reliable systems at enterprise scale.

Highlights

Work on large-scale infrastructure systems requiring advanced engineering, scalability expertise, and architectural problem solving.

Description

Description & Requirements Is This You: You’re the kind of engineer who wants to build high-throughput, fault-tolerant infrastructure that underpins an entire enterprise. You think deeply about system design, latency, data governance and operational resilience. When faced with scalability bottlenecks or race conditions, you don't just patch them - you redesign and architect robust, long-term solutions. You thrive in a collaborative environment where your engineering decisions directly impact thousands of machines and billions of daily transactions. Our Team: The Customer Distribution Infrastructure team owns the foundational customer data system of record that powers Bloomberg’s internal business functions and client-facing experiences. As the trusted source of truth for customer profiles and engagement context, our platform delivers data across Bloomberg instantly and reliably. Our systems underpin everything from core terminal workflows to trading platforms and enterprise applications like the Bloomberg Customer Portal. We build, scale, and maintain high-availability systems that provide: Enterprise-wide customer data propagation and low-latency access layersHigh-throughput caching infrastructure handling 6+ billion lookups per dayStrict data compliance and privacy controls across permission-bounded APIsResilient messaging, event propagation and database replication pipelinesWhat’s in it for you: You’ll design and evolve the core system at the heart of the Bloomberg ecosystem. Handling roughly 6 billion lookups per day across thousands of machines, your work will directly drive the performance and availability of platforms used across the firm. As a full-stack infrastructure team, we work across backend services, APIs, caches, and observability platforms. You will partner with application teams and stakeholders to build the next generation of data propagation and access patterns while balancing data governance with high performance. We’ll trust you to: Scale local and remote caching layers using C++, Python, and GraphQL to ensure low-latency data retrievalArchitect Kubernetes-friendly caching solutions and infrastructure patterns for cloud-native clientsRevamp the Customer Record data model to support the evolution of our business processesImplement data governance and compliance frameworks to enforce strict privacy and securityOptimize update flows, queue-based event propagation, and database replication while eliminating race conditionsEstablish strict SLOs/SLAs and build observability frameworks using Grafana dashboards, alerting, and latency analysisWe'll expect you to be: An owner of the platform - you take accountability for building systems that operate reliably at global scale.A solid team player - you collaborate across engineering, product and business stakeholders to build adoptable infrastructure.Performance-focused - you bring a rigorous approach to system design, latency optimization and low-level debugging.Proactive - you contribute ideas to continuously refine observability, architectural standards and development flow. You'll need to have: 5+ years of professional experience designing, developing and releasing high-quality software in Python, C++, C# and/or TypeScript/JavaScriptA Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experienceWe’d love to see: Experience building high-scale caching platforms or data access layersDemonstrated track record working with message brokers, distributed caching and relational databases (e.g., RabbitMQ, Redis, Comdb2, SQL Server, GraphQL)Proven expertise in system design, data modeling and API designStrong fundamentals in low-latency data access & caching mechanismsA high standard for software maturity, operational resilience and data governanceDemonstrated experience with performance tuning, memory management and deep latency/error analysis
