QA Automation Engineer

Why This Role ExistsLeasecake is the system of record for lease administration, accounting, and payments - and when you are the source of truth for someone's critical dates, ASC 842 schedules, and money movement, "mostly correct" is not a thing that exists. A missed renewal, a rounding error in an amortization schedule, or a broken reconciliation isn't a bug ticket for our customers. It's a real financial and operational risk. We're looking for a QA Automation Engineer to own that promise from an engineering seat. This is not a manual click-testing role, and it is not a role that lives at the end of the pipeline catching what everyone else missed. You will design and build the automated test suite that lets a small, fast-moving team ship a mission-critical financial platform with confidence - browser, acceptance, regression, and integration coverage that runs on every change and tells us the truth about what we just built. You'll work in the same codebase as the engineers, in the same language, with the same tools. Your tests are first-class code. Your job is to make quality the path of least resistance so shipping fast and shipping right stop being a tradeoff. What You'll DoOwn the Automated Test StrategyOwn the end-to-end QA lifecycle for our SaaS products - define what we test, at which layer, and to what depth, and hold the line on it.Build and grow a comprehensive automated suite spanning unit, feature/integration, acceptance, regression, and browser (E2E) testing.Decide, deliberately, what belongs in a fast PHPUnit feature test versus a full browser test and keep the pyramid honest, so the suite stays fast enough to run on every push.Establish and defend acceptance criteria alongside Product and Engineering, then encode them as executable tests rather than prose that drifts. Write First-Class Test CodeWrite tests in the same stack the app is built on: Laravel 13, PHP 8.5, PHPUnit 12 for the core suite, and Pest 4 + Playwright for browser end-to-end coverage.Exercise a complex, multi-tenant domain, event-sourced aggregates, ASC 842 / IFRS 16 financial calculations, per-currency amortization schedules, and workflow automation with tests that assert behavior, not implementation.Drive full-stack coverage of our Filament and Livewire interfaces, where async re-rendering makes naive assertions flaky and thoughtful test design matters.Build the fixtures, factories, and seed data that make tests deterministic and readable, and lean on database transactions for fast, isolated runs. Make CI a Quality GateOwn how the suite runs in CI, parallelization, sharding, coverage collection, and test-impact analysis so feedback is fast and the signal is trustworthy.Keep the suite green, fast, and non-flaky. Hunt down and eliminate flake at the source; a test nobody trusts is worse than no test.Partner on the static-analysis and style gates (PHPStan / Larastan level 5, Pint, Rector) that sit next to the tests and help wire quality checks into GitHub Actions.Contribute to regression, performance, and load coverage (k6) so we catch slow queries and scale regressions before customers do. Partner Across the TeamWork shoulder-to-shoulder with engineers, review PRs for testability, pair on hard-to-cover paths, and raise the whole team's testing craft.Translate real leasing and accounting workflows into coverage that reflects how customers actually use the product.Turn every production incident into a durable regression test, so we never ship the same bug twice.Give the team a clear, honest read on quality, what's covered, what's risky, and where to invest next. Who You AreExperience5+ years building automated test suites for production software, with meaningful time spent as an engineer, you read and write application code, not just test scripts.Deep PHP expertise and hands-on fluency with Laravel. You know the framework's testing tools cold and understand how the pieces fit together.Strong command of PHPUnit and Pest, including browser/E2E testing with Pest's Playwright-backed plugin (or comparable experience with Playwright, Cypress, Dusk, or Selenium that you can bring to Pest).Proven track record on a large, long-lived application, you've owned a suite as it grew and kept it fast, meaningful, and trustworthy.Comfortable in a CI/CD pipeline (GitHub Actions or similar): parallel execution, coverage reporting, and debugging failures that only show up in CI.Fluent with relational databases and SQL (PostgreSQL a plus), you can reason about data state, test isolation, and query behavior.Bonus points for any of multi-tenant SaaS, financial/accounting software (ASC 842 / IFRS 16), event sourcing, Filament, or Livewire. CapabilitiesYou think like an adversary and build like an engineer. You find the edge case that breaks the happy path, then write the clean, maintainable test that pins it down for good.You have taste about coverage. You know the difference between tests that give confidence and tests that give a green checkmark, and you optimize for the former.You are allergic to flake. A non-deterministic test is a defect to you, not background noise, and you'll do the work to root it out.You raise the bar around you. You make testing easier and more obvious for the whole team, not a specialized thing only you can do.You're comfortable with ambiguity. Our process is still maturing; you'll help build it while flying it, and you see that as the opportunity, not the problem.You speak with candor.
