Job Summary The Senior Web Developer & Digital Accessibility (GPLS) position provides the technical leadership and strategic oversight necessary to ensure the functionality, security, and universal accessibility of the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS) web ecosystem. This position manages the technical infrastructure for the agency's primary websites, departmental sites, and internal platforms, ensuring they remain secure, updated, and high-performing. A primary focus of this role is ensuring strict compliance with accessibility requirements and WCAG standards across all digital properties, including consulting with and assisting the PINES team and GLS to ensure their platforms meet all accessibility mandates. Beyond agency-level support, this position serves as the primary technical liaison for a statewide content management system (CMS) consortium. Responsibilities include managing the vendor contract, negotiating terms, exploring and implementing new features, and ensuring the quality of vendor support for participating library systems. Additionally, this role assists in the development and maintenance of custom web applications and microservices to support both internal operations and external services. The Web Developer & Digital Accessibility Manager is a central resource for professional development, expected to provide comprehensive training, webinars, and consultation to all internal GPLS staff and all 61 public library systems across Georgia. Responsibilities Digital Accessibility Compliance, Remediation & Bespoke Support Leads agency-wide efforts to ensure all GPLS web properties and digital content comply with WCAG standards and regulatory mandates. Offers targeted, 1:1 technical and design remediation auditing, training, and limited assistance directly to library staff across Georgia's 61 public library systems to improve accessibility of their web assets. Regularly communicates with GLS staff regarding accessibility best practices among NLS libraries nationwide. Serves as a consultant to the PINES team to ensure compliance of statewide ILS. Web Infrastructure, Database, & Custom Application Management Provides high-level technical support, security patching, and core maintenance for all agency-adopted content management systems, custom web applications, directories, and microservices utilizing Google AppSheet, Apps Script, and SQL-based databases. Manages web frameworks, redesigns, and optimization but is not responsible for content management or updates. Manages the underlying operating systems, and software hosting environments. Coordinates incident responses to web failures or security vulnerabilities in partnership with GPLS IT and Cybersecurity staff. Technical Training, Strategic Planning, CMS Consortium Management Designs, develops, and delivers a robust, comprehensive curriculum of training programs, live webinars, and technical documentation tailored to both GPLS agency staff and the 61 public library systems. Formulates and executes short-term and long-range web development strategies that align with agency goals. Conducts ongoing professional research to remain current on emerging technologies, accessibility legislation, and security standards. Operates as the primary technical liaison for the statewide CMS consortium and GPLS hosting. Oversees core vendor and hosting contracts, drives contract negotiations, evaluates prospective features/alternatives, monitors SLA support performance, ensures appropriate library staff involvement across participating systems, and coordinates onboarding of new systems. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree and over five (5) years related experience required. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field preferred. Experience working within a public library setting or government agency. Over five (5) years of varied information technology experience, specifically in web development, CMS management, and/or digital accessibility. Strong experience with WordPress, SQL-based databases, and managing vendor-hosted CMS platforms like Revize. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information processed, stored, or accessed by systems. Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and to reason analytically.
