Role Focus & Trajectory This is a Senior DevOps Engineer role with a primary focus on designing, operating, and optimizing our AWS + on-premises infrastructure. You will partner directly with MERN development teams and provide steady support for our legacy PHP systems until our migration to the replacement MERN stack is complete. While DevOps and hybrid infrastructure are your core responsibilities, you will progressively adopt SRE practices—including observability, SLO/SLI tracking, incident leadership, and Terraform-driven infrastructure-as-code standards—as the role evolves toward a formal SRE track. Important Scope Boundary This job will not be handling application-level product architecture. High-level product strategy, feature design, and application architecture are owned by our dedicated Product Architecture and Director of Product Development roles. Your focus remains strictly on infrastructure design, deployment pipelines, environment stability, and operational excellence. Duties Architect, deploy, and maintain a hybrid infrastructure footprint across AWS and on-premises Linux servers Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and container/orchestration layers tailored to both cloud and bare-metal environments Write & maintain programs related to monitoring & running job control processes Partner with MERN stack developers to streamline local dev environments, staging deployments, and production releases Support, secure, and gradually modernize legacy PHP applications and their underlying infrastructure Provide lightweight, occasional desktop and developer environment support (~5–10% of time) with a strong emphasis on automation, documentation, and eventual delegation Assist with desktop support tasks, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of computers and peripherals Conduct analysis of IT infrastructure to identify areas for improvement or potential issues Maintain and contribute to documentation related to IT processes and procedures Provide customer service by assisting users with technical inquiries and educating them on best practices Progressively implement SRE practices: deploy comprehensive observability stacks, define and track SLOs/SLIs, lead incident response and blameless post-mortems, and standardize infrastructure-as-code workflows using Terraform Automate recurring tasks, standardize environments, and reduce technical debt across hybrid systems Collaborate with product and development leadership to align infrastructure capabilities with engineering roadmaps—ensuring developers have stable, automated, and secure environments to ship code Mentor engineers, contribute to runbooks, and foster a culture of shared operational ownership and continuous improvement Experience Required 5+ years of hands-on DevOps, Systems, or Infrastructure Engineering experience Proven experience in IT support or help desk roles with a focus on customer service Deep expertise with AWS services (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, ECS/EKS, Lambda, CloudWatch, etc.) and on-premises Linux server management Strong knowledge of computer management and troubleshooting techniques Strong experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or Pulumi) and CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI, or similar) Proficient in supporting various operating systems Proficiency in scripting/automation (Python, Bash, Node.js, or Go) and package/configuration management Proven experience supporting web development teams across modern stacks (MERN) and legacy PHP environments Solid understanding of networking, DNS, TLS, firewalls, and security hardening in hybrid environments Comfortable providing mild desktop/developer support while actively working to automate or delegate recurring tasks Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly to non-technical users Proven experience in writing & maintaining documentation and wiki pages Strong analytical skills to diagnose issues effectively and propose solutions Clear understanding of the difference between infrastructure architecture and application-level product architecture, with experience working in structured engineering orgs with defined role boundaries Preferred Familiarity with or prior experience in SRE practices (SLO/SLI definition, error budgets, observability stacks, blameless post-mortems, Terraform standardization) Experience migrating or synchronizing workloads between on-prem and cloud environments Exposure to PHP legacy modernization patterns, containerization of monoliths, or API gateway/microservices transitions Knowledge of MERN ecosystem tooling (Docker, Nginx, PM2, MongoDB/Redis ops, React/Node deployment patterns) Experience with cost optimization, capacity planning, or compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO27001, HIPAA, etc.) Relevant certifications (AWS Solutions Architect/DevOps Pro, CKA, Linux+, etc.) Compliance & Data Security Understand, implement, and maintain PCI DSS standards across all infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and application environments Enforce strict data handling practices to ensure the safety, encryption, and auditability of PII throughout the software lifecycle Collaborate with development and product teams to embed security and compliance controls early in the deployment process Maintain documentation and runbooks that align with PCI and PII protection requirements Conduct regular infrastructure and pipeline audits to ensure ongoing compliance and mitigate data exposure risks Why Join Big Bridge Holdings?
