About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join Palantir’s Substrate team, which is responsible for maintaining and scaling the company’s core production infrastructure.
This critical team manages hundreds of Kubernetes clusters across diverse environments—from on-premises data centers to major cloud hyperscalers, including internet-connected and air-gapped systems.
As a key member of this team, you will design, develop, and enhance Palantir’s managed Kubernetes offerings, ensuring they meet the rigorous demands of scale, security, and compliance.
Your role will involve building industry-leading tooling to automate cluster deployment and management, reducing manual intervention, and enabling rapid, reliable scaling.
You will contribute to open-source CNCF projects, participate in upstream development, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to design infrastructure solutions that are resilient, secure, and adaptable to future needs.

Qualifications
Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in core infrastructure software development, with a focus on operational excellence and reliability.At least 2 years of experience in system design or architecture, including scalability, reliability, and performance optimization.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.Strong proficiency in systems programming languages such as Go, C, or C++, with a proven track record of developing and maintaining complex systems.Hands-on experience with infrastructure automation tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or Kubernetes operators, along with scripting skills in Go, Java, or similar languages.Deep understanding of hardware configurations, operating system internals, networking fundamentals, and diagnostic tooling.Extensive experience working with containers (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes) at scale.Experience with cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, or with data center operations as a sysadmin or SRE.Demonstrated ability to design, build, and operate high-scale observability and infrastructure systems.Knowledge of networking concepts, including container network interfaces (CNIs) and cloud networking infrastructure, is preferred.
Responsibilities
Design and deliver a container runtime environment suitable for diverse and challenging new deployment scenarios, including new cloud environments, on-premises data centers, and edge devices.Develop automation frameworks and establish operational standards to ensure secure, scalable Kubernetes deployment with minimal manual intervention.Drive innovation by adopting and integrating new Kubernetes features and CNCF tools, contributing to upstream projects as necessary.Architect the next generation of Palantir’s infrastructure by leveraging deep knowledge of internal systems, industry standards, and best practices in cloud-native technologies.Implement and maintain robust monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure high availability and reliability of infrastructure services.Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to troubleshoot complex issues, optimize performance, and enhance security posture.Contribute to open-source projects and participate in community initiatives to influence the evolution of Kubernetes and related technologies.Ensure compliance with various regulatory and security standards across different hosting environments.
