Grade: SC6 to PO2 (Career Grade) Service: Highways and Traffic, Transport Reporting to: Senior Highway Engineer About The Role We are looking for a motivated and technically capable Highways Improvement Engineer to join our Highways and Traffic team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer seeking to develop their career while contributing to the delivery of highway improvement schemes that enhance the condition, safety and efficiency of the borough's road network. The role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle, from data collection and scheme design through to construction supervision and stakeholder engagement. Key Responsibilities You will: Assist in the development and delivery of highway improvement schemes designed to improve network condition, safety and traffic movement.Undertake site surveys, collect and analyse technical data, and support the production of engineering solutions.Prepare and review drawings, specifications and cost estimates for highway improvement projects.Inspect works on site to ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards and health and safety requirements.Liaise with contractors, utility companies and other stakeholders throughout scheme delivery.Issue works orders, site instructions and variations as appropriate to grade and responsibility level.Assist with the programming and delivery of annual highway improvement works.Respond to enquiries from residents, elected members, MPs and partner organisations.Prepare and present technical reports relating to project delivery and engineering activities. About You We Are Looking For Someone Who Can Demonstrate Experience or knowledge of highway engineering, construction or transportation projects.An understanding of highway design principles and engineering standards.The ability to interpret technical information and produce engineering drawings and documentation.Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.Confidence in dealing with contractors, stakeholders and members of the public.A commitment to delivering high-quality services and supporting continuous improvement.An awareness of relevant health and safety legislation and engineering best practice.
