Lead Civil Engineer – Data Centre Design & Permitting – Frankfurt
The Resolute Group are currently working in partnership with an established international engineering and design consultancy who are strengthening their Data Centre and Mission Critical team in Germany.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer with strong German project and permitting experience to take a leading role within a growing multidisciplinary team.
Working alongside structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental and other engineering specialists, you will lead the civil engineering design of complex data centre and mission-critical developments, with particular responsibility for site infrastructure, drainage, utilities, earthworks and permitting.
Location: Frankfurt (hybrid working)
Salary: €80,000 - €100,000 basic + package
Job Description
As Lead Civil Engineer, you will take ownership of the civil engineering discipline across data centre projects from early concept through detailed design, working primarily across RIBA Stages 1–4.
You will provide technical leadership, coordinate civil deliverables and act as a key point of contact for clients, authorities and wider project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Leading civil engineering design across large-scale data centre and mission-critical projects from concept through detailed design.Developing and reviewing site development strategies covering drainage, utilities, roads, earthworks and external infrastructure.Taking technical ownership of civil engineering solutions and ensuring deliverables meet project requirements, programme and quality standards.Designing and reviewing stormwater drainage, sewer networks and surface water management systems.Leading the coordination of underground utilities, utility corridors and associated infrastructure.Overseeing earthworks, site grading, platforms, roads, pavements and wider site infrastructure.Reviewing hydraulic calculations, drainage strategies and technical assessments.Developing practical solutions for attenuation, infiltration, water management and, where applicable, rainwater harvesting.Coordinating civil engineering designs with structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical and environmental disciplines.Leading civil engineering input into planning, permitting and authority approval processes.Supporting applications and approvals relating to drainage, dewatering, infiltration, groundwater and other water-related requirements.Working directly with municipalities, utility providers, Wasserbehörden and other relevant German authorities.Acting as a technical point of contact for clients on all civil engineering matters.Leading design reviews, technical workshops and coordination meetings.Reviewing comments from authorities and stakeholders and driving appropriate technical solutions through to resolution.Managing and coordinating internal civil engineering resources and external specialist consultants.Identifying technical risks, design interfaces and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.Reviewing and approving civil engineering deliverables produced by the wider project team.Supporting the development of junior and senior engineers through technical guidance, mentoring and knowledge sharing.Contributing to the continued growth of the civil engineering and Data Centre capability within the Frankfurt office.
Requirements:
A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.Around 8+ years of relevant professional experience within civil engineering consultancy, engineering design or a comparable environment.Strong experience delivering civil engineering projects in Germany.Proven experience leading civil engineering packages within multidisciplinary project teams.Strong technical knowledge of stormwater drainage, sewer networks, utilities and site infrastructure.Experience with earthworks, grading, roads, pavements and wider site development.Good understanding of German civil engineering standards, regulations and authority approval processes.Previous experience dealing directly with municipalities, utility providers and water authorities.Experience supporting or leading civil engineering permitting and approval processes.Strong understanding of water management, drainage and groundwater-related requirements.Experience coordinating civil engineering designs with other technical disciplines.Client-facing experience with the confidence to lead technical discussions and present engineering solutions.Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical direction within a project environment.Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple technical priorities.Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D; familiarity with Revit and BIM coordination would be advantageous.Experience with hydraulic or hydrological modelling software would be beneficial.Fluent German and strong English communication skills.Willingness to travel occasionally where required for project and client requirements.
