Backend Software Engineer – Mid/Senior (Java / Python / C#) – Investment Banking $120,000–$160,000 + bonus & benefits | Boston, MA | Hybrid – 3 days onsite | Permanent We’re hiring a Mid-to-Senior Backend Software Engineer to join the Boston technology team of an investment bank. We’re looking for strong backend engineers who enjoy solving complex problems, designing scalable systems and taking technical ownership while remaining very hands-on with the code. What you’ll be doing: Designing and building high-performance backend systemsHelping modernise and replace components of a core legacy platformWorking across architecture, design and hands-on developmentBuilding scalable services and microservicesCarrying out code reviews and helping maintain engineering standardsMentoring and supporting other engineersWorking closely with technical and business stakeholders What we’re looking for: Strong backend software engineering experienceCommercial experience with Java, Python or C#Strong problem-solving and system design skillsExperience building scalable, distributed or high-performance systemsExperience with code reviews and supporting other engineers You don’t need to tick every technology box. We’re interested in strong backend engineers first and foremost. Experience with some of the following would be particularly useful: JavaKafkaKubernetes / containerised microservicesAzure or other cloud platformsCucumber / BDDAutomated testingDistributed systems Salary: $120,000–$160,000 + bonus & benefits Location: Boston, MA Working pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite Please note: This position cannot provide current or future visa sponsorship.
