Job Description Summary The successful candidate will be a part of GE Vernova’s Wind Global Machine Head Driveline subsystem. The team is responsible for mechanical hardware (main bearing, main shaft, covers, rotor locks, rotor brakes, and couplings) including New Product / Technology Introduction, Validation & Testing, Field Support, and Root Cause Analysis for utility scale wind turbines. This position will primarily support the high speed shaft components through the entire life cycle from conceptual design through detailed design and development, testing, qualification, manufacturing, validation, and installed fleet support. The engineer will drive technical excellence and continuous improvement in the design, analysis, cost, and reliability of the components under their responsibility. Job Description Essential Responsibilities You Will Design engineering solutions for mechanical structural shafts encompassing component design, system interaction, and system reliabilityDevelop engineering drawings and specification requirements for sourcing of wind turbine components.Execute projects pertaining to new product introduction, new technology integration, and field issue resolution with a heavy focus on quality and reliability verified by physical testingHold ownership of and drive lessons learned, best practices, and standardization into design related documentation such as design practices, drawings, and technical specificationsResponsible for design, development of testing/validation plans to prove component function and reliabilityProvide innovative design solutions to meet aggressive timing, product cost, and reliability targetsEnsure quality of new and revised drawings, BoMs, and specifications applying all GE and industry processes, standards, and best practicesWork cross functionally, developing strong relationships with quality teams, manufacturing engineers, sourcing, suppliers, field support, and others to improve product quality and first-time yieldSupport manufacturing, sourcing, and the field with issue resolution and quick corrective actions for design related causes (NCR, SDR, PAC)Drive quick, complete technical root cause analysis of field failures and identify design related corrective actions to prevent recurrenceIdentify and execute cost saving ideas and strategiesDrive efforts to introduce advanced technology, materials, manufacturing methods, new design tools/methods to advance the strategic position of Machine Head Driveline subsystem components Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical EngineeringMinimum 2 years mechanical analysis and design experience in industryAbility and willingness to travel up to 20% of timeFluent in English Desired Characteristics Working knowledge of technical drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing processesProficiency with 3D-CAD tools (preferably Unigraphics NX), finite element analysis CAE tools (preferably Ansys), and PLM toolsExperience with large-scale projects with team members across cultural boundariesMaster’s Degree in Mechanical EngineeringDesign experience working on structural build-to-print and/or build-to-spec components in utility-scale Wind Turbines (hub, main shaft, bedplate, pillow block, generator frame, towers, etc.) Experience with system design including interface definition, system stiffness, DFMEA, and design for manufacturability / installation / serviceability. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
