Our Highways project teams work across urban highways, rural roads, major interchanges and active transport infrastructure, bringing together engineers, designers and drafters to deliver multidisciplinary outcomes. The Opportunity As a Senior Highways Engineer, you will be a key part of our Highways team, designing and managing multidisciplinary projects and working closely with engineers, designers and drafters. You will work with a high degree of autonomy, escalating matters where appropriate, and will lead small, medium and large-scale projects while contributing as a key member of major project groups. Lead project and design management activities, including technical design, documentation and analysis for road and highway projects. Manage multidisciplinary design projects covering road design, active transport design, pavement design, lighting design, ITS design, service conflict investigation and drainage design. Check the quality and accuracy of your own and others’ work, supporting strong project standards and technical outcomes. Prepare and manage technical analysis and documentation for various elements of road design. Work directly with clients, contractors and government agencies at both a technical and strategic level, including communicating with clients to win work and develop designs in line with project requirements. Provide technical guidance, coordination and mentoring to engineers, designers and drafters within project teams. Arup will support your continued technical, commercial and leadership development through structured learning, mentoring and project experience. In this role, you will contribute to the continued growth and success of the Highways team while developing your capability as a senior member of the group. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, with Chartered membership with Engineers Australia or equivalent desirable. A strong track record in highway and road design, with an understanding of the design process from planning through to detailed design. Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams, project deadlines and competing priorities, including project scope, programme, fee, profitability and change control. Extensive knowledge of Austroads design guides, Main Roads WA supplements and relevant standards, with experience with Main Roads WA and the ETS Panel highly regarded. Strong communication, planning, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to build client relationships and work independently without supervision. Experience using or reviewing outputs from road design software such as OpenRoads Designer, 12d, Civil 3D or equivalent will support your success in this role.
