BACKGROUND & PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Football Australia maintains a comprehensive suite of digital solutions serving both internal operations and the Australian football community, combining in-house developed applications with enterprise vendor platforms.
The Junior DevOps & Platform Engineer supports the engineering team in maintaining reliable, secure cloud infrastructure and automated pipelines, while developing their skills under the guidance of senior engineers.
Operating within an AWS cloud environment, the role involves supporting infrastructure management, CI/CD pipelines, and full-stack development across React / TypeScript frontends and serverless backends utilising AWS Lambda, TypeScript, and Python.
This is a growth role: we are looking for a motivated early-career engineer eager to build a strong foundation in DevOps, platform engineering, and secure software delivery through hands-on work and mentorship.
The role is suited to a motivated, security-conscious early-career engineer who is eager to grow and contribute, contributing to the reliability, security, and performance of Football Australia’ digital infrastructure under the guidance of senior engineers.
ROLE RESPONSIBILTIES
Develop and support full-stack applications using React, TypeScript, Python and AWS Lambda across Football Australia's digital platforms.Assist with system integrations, APIs, data feeds, and data migration activities to support digital and data initiatives.Support the development of data products, reporting, and data quality improvements.Help maintain secure AWS cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices under senior guidance.Apply cybersecurity, testing, and compliance standards to ensure secure and reliable solutions.Provide technical support for PlayFootball and Lets PlayFootball systems, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident escalation.Contribute to documentation, code reviews, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.Support the broader IT team with internal systems, user access management, and technology-related requests.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
Recent Graduates or early-career engineers welcomeRelevant qualification in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience, with hands-on exposure through study, internships or personal projects.Working knowledge of TypeScript, Python, JavaScript or Golang, with experience developing applications using React and an understanding of software development best practices.Familiarity with AWS cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools, with a strong desire to continue learning cloud technologies.Understanding of automated testing, QA practices, and secure software development principles.Knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals, including access management, API security and data protection.Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, monitor systems, and support digital products and services.Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative and growth-oriented mindset.
