Job Title/High Level Position Summary
We are seeking a talented and experienced Systems Engineer to join our Enabling Technologies group, focused on the design, integration, and optimization of advanced surgical navigation, and visualization systems.
This role supports the development of software- and hardware-integrated solutions for orthopedic procedures, with a strong emphasis on system-level architecture, performance, and reliability.The Systems Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams including software, hardware, clinical research, and product management to define system requirements and ensure seamless integration of components across the surgical ecosystem.
The ideal candidate is experienced in complex system design, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is passionate about developing technologies that improve surgical precision and patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Define, design, and support system-level architecture for surgical navigation, and visualization platformsTranslate clinical and product requirements into detailed system specifications and technical requirementsCollaborate with software, hardware, and clinical teams to ensure integration of optical navigation technologies and surgical systemsSupport development and optimization of real-time surgical visualization and augmented reality capabilitiesEnsure system performance, reliability, and safety across hardware and software componentsParticipate in verification and validation activities with V&V teams to ensure compliance with medical device standards and regulatory requirementsIdentify, troubleshoot, and resolve system-level issues across integrated hardware/software environmentsDocument system architecture, requirements, interfaces, and verification plans in accordance with design control processesSupport risk management activities, including system hazard analysis and mitigation strategiesContribute to design reviews and cross-functional technical discussions to ensure alignment on system requirements and implementationSupport lifecycle management of existing systems and continuous improvement of platform architecture
Scope / Role Dimensions
Supports development of integrated surgical navigation, and visualization systems for orthopedic proceduresWorks across software, hardware, clinical, quality, and regulatory teamsResponsible for system-level requirements, integration, and performance across complex medical platformsContributes to both new product development and sustaining engineering activities
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field3+ years of experience in systems engineering, software engineering, or complex product developmentExperience with software development using C# and Unity preferredExperience integrating software with physical hardware systems (e.g., cameras, robotics, tracking systems)Strong understanding of optical navigation systems and real-time visualization technologiesExperience with SDLC, version control systems (e.g., Git), and Agile development methodologiesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills
Desired Qualifications
Experience in medical device systems engineering or regulated environments (FDA/ISO)Experience with robotic systems or surgical navigation platformsUnderstanding of anatomy and biomechanics in orthopedic applicationsFamiliarity with cloud technologies, web services, and REST APIsExperience with system risk management and design control processesBackground in augmented reality or immersive visualization systems
