About The Opportunity The Build, Configuration & Release team is pivotal to building and delivering the core products that Wind River relies on. As a Senior Member of Technical Staff, your contribution in this role will have a direct and significant impact on the success of thousands of engineers and customers worldwide. You will be ultimately responsible for architecting, evolving, and maintaining a complex and modern build system for a suite of embedded products with well over 1M lines of code. YOUR ROLE This is a senior technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in build systems, configuration management, and release engineering. You will set the technical direction for build infrastructure, mentor team members, drive cross-team alignment, and be a key decision-maker on build architecture and tooling strategy. In your daily job you will: Architect and drive the evolution of state-of-the-art C and C++ build systems, designing scalable and maintainable solutions that support complex product linesLead the design and implementation of build and configuration systems integrated into development pipelinesOwn the technical strategy for build infrastructure, including reproducibility and build performance optimizationBuild and maintain infrastructure allowing for 3rd party integration points; support build infrastructure across multiple globally distributed teamsProvide senior technical leadership and mentorship to developers on build system integration, best practices, and troubleshootingInvestigate and resolve complex, cross-cutting issues related to Wind River and customer builds and configurationsDrive initiatives to improve build times, reliability, and developer experience across the organizationCollaborate with product management, architecture, and development teams to ensure build systems meet evolving product requirementsTake responsibility for documentation, standards, and processes related to build, configuration, and release engineeringIdentify and drive adoption of emerging build technologies and practices; represent Wind River in relevant open-source communitiesProvide technical guidance on Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) generation and complianceContribute to release engineering processes including branching strategies, release automation, and artifact management How You Will Contribute Qualifications: BSc or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical/Software Engineering, or other STEM field, or equivalent work experience10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant focus on build systems, configuration management, and release engineeringDeep expertise with modern C and C++ builds systems and toolchains (GNU Make, CMake, Ninja, Meson, Bazel)Expert-level proficiency in configuration systems such as Kconfig and similar frameworksStrong experience with scripting languages: Python, Groovy, Bash, PowerShell, PerlExtensive experience with source code management tools (Git) and branching/merging strategies at scaleProven experience with containerized build systems and infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes)Experience with very large codebases and projects with complex multi-layered dependency managementTrack record of technical leadership, including mentoring engineers and driving cross-team technical decisions Core Competencies & Demonstrated Success: Demonstrated ability to architect build systems that scale across large, distributed engineering organizationsExcellent problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex cross-platform build failuresStrong communication and documentation skills; ability to influence and align stakeholders across teams and geographiesSelf-directed and proactive; able to identify systemic issues and drive improvements without explicit directionCollaborative mindset; strong team player comfortable working in a high-pace, high-accountability environmentAbility to balance technical excellence with pragmatic delivery It will be great if you also have: Experience with embedded software development and RTOS developmentExperience with SBOM tooling and supply chain security practicesKnowledge of certification standards (DO-178B/C, ISO 26262) and their impact on build and configuration processesOpen-source contributions, particularly in building and configuration technologies for Linux and other environmentsExperience leading teams or as a scrum master; Scrum certifications (CSM, PSM) are a plusFamiliarity with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and RTOS development toolsExperience with build system migration or modernization projectsKnowledge of reproducible builds and hermetic build environments BENEFITS - Canada Workplace Flexibility: Hybrid Work.Company-sponsored health, dental, and life insurance.Income protection through short and long-term disability coverage.Matching RRSP.Vacation and various time off policies to encourage work-life balance.Well-being programs: Employee assistance program, mental well-being through Unmind.Learning benefits: LinkedIn Learning subscription and seminars. Compensation This role is compensation range is between $130,000 to $170,000 CAD plus annual incentive plan bonus. Compensation is determined through interviews and a review of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities of the applicant, and equity with other team members.
