How will you impact? We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer capable of leading the design, development, and support of mission-critical banking services. This role places a strong emphasis on software architecture, cloud engineering, and operational excellence. You will be working on scalable, customer-facing platforms in a dynamic financial services environment. Your key responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain mission-critical banking services and applicationsLead architectural decisions for distributed systems and microservicesBuild and support cloud-native applications in multi-cloud environmentsDevelop robust RESTful APIs and implement asynchronous processing solutionsEnsure operational excellence through comprehensive testing strategies and production supportParticipate in incident management and system reliability initiativesCollaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple locations Required Skills & Experience: Extensive hands-on backend engineering experienceExpert proficiency in Java developmentStrong knowledge of JVM technologies and open-source frameworksProven experience building and supporting cloud-native applicationsDeep understanding of distributed systems architecture and microservicesDemonstrated experience developing RESTful APIsHands-on experience with messaging frameworks and asynchronous processingExperience working with relational databases and data architecture patternsStrong production support experience, including incident managementExpertise in CI/CD pipelines and automationProven expertise in end-to-end testing practices (unit, component, integration, and performance testing). Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in Kotlin in addition to JavaExperience in banking, card issuing, and payment processing, including card network and gateway integrationsExperience with scalable, customer-facing platforms in financial services Location: Candidates based in UK/London: Hybrid model, 2-3 days per week in Canary Wharf, London.
