Job Description
The Sun Life DevOps team is made up of individuals with diverse technical skills and backgrounds.
You will have the opportunity to learn from these professionals about the latest DevOps tools, AI-powered automation, and dashboards that drive modern software delivery.
You will gain hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, SonarQube, and Jenkins, while exploring how AI and GenAI tools (such as GitHub Copilot) are transforming the way teams build, test, deploy, and support applications.
In this role, you will work very closely with our development and deployment teams and our DevOps coaches to gain real-world experience in an agile, AI-enabled work environment where continuous learning and innovation are at the core of everything we do.
What will you do?
Work on a Java application to improve efficiency and provide production support, using AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot) to accelerate coding, debuggingWork in Docker and deploy to Kubernetes/OpenShift using Jenkins pipelines, applying AI-powered insights to optimize builds, deployments, and pipeline reliabilityParticipate in shift-left testing and technical documentation, leveraging AI tools to generate tests, detect issues earlier, and produce clear, maintainable documentationExplore and apply AI/GenAI capabilities to automate repetitive DevOps tasks, analyze logs and metrics, and improve developer productivityWork with the DevOps coaching team to coach and support agile teams and developers throughout the adoption of DevOps tools, AI-assisted practices, and modern engineering workflows
What do you need to succeed?
Experience with Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIsInterest in or exposure to AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI coding assistants) and a curiosity for applying AI to real engineering problemsKnowledge of creating and configuring Docker images and containersExperience working with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube, Ansible, Artifactory, and JiraExperience with databases such as PostgreSQL and MS SQLFamiliarity with an agile environmentExperience with version control tools (e.g., Git, Bitbucket, GitHub)Understanding of how AI and automation can improve CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and production supportNice to have experience or knowledge of Kubernetes, Grafana, time-series databases (InfluxDB), and emerging AI/GenAI or MLOps toolingThis opportunity is available to students with an April 2027 or later graduation date.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted for.
The Base Pay which you will be considered for will vary depending on the Campus program you are selected for.
Eligible Sun Life employees for various Campus Graduate programs will also participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance
