Description

Who We Are KEV builds mission-critical financial software for K12 schools across North America. Our platform provides real-time visibility and control over how funds are collected and managed, replacing fragmented workflows with secure, modern systems that schools rely on every day. Trusted by more than 27,000 K12 schools managing over $8B annually, KEV delivers mission-critical software for payments, accounting, and reporting, where reliability and security matter. Headquartered in Toronto with teams across North America, we are scaling quickly and investing deeply in cloud-native, data-driven technology. KEV is a place for people who care about building durable software at scale and doing work that has real impact in public education. We focus on solving hard problems, raising the bar on engineering craft, and building products that earn long-term trust from the communities we serve. This role is for an active vacancy. About the Role We are hiring a DevOps Engineer to help modernize, automate, and scale the infrastructure and delivery systems that power KEV's platforms. You will improve how our applications are built, deployed, monitored, and operated, while helping move existing infrastructure toward more reliable and modern approaches over time. This role requires strong engineering judgment and hands-on experience operating SaaS systems at scale. You will use automation, Infrastructure as Code, observability, and sound reliability practices to reduce manual work and improve the platform. You will work closely with development teams to solve problems across infrastructure, application delivery, and operational processes rather than treating DevOps as a separate function. How You Will Contribute Enable Reliable Application Deployments Work closely with development teams to understand project requirements and improve how applications are built and deployed across environments, ensuring smooth, timely, and low-risk releases. Maintain clear environment alignment to support predictable deployment outcomes. Work with development leads to identify changes that improve release reliability, speed, and operational efficiency. Environment Architecture & Configuration Management Create and maintain detailed environment diagrams for each application, ensuring correct configuration, system integration, and consistency across development, staging, and production environments. Use automated and version-controlled configuration to reduce drift and improve repeatability. Automation & Infrastructure as Code Use automation, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code as the standard approach for managing infrastructure and deployments. Identify repetitive or manual work and replace it with maintainable, reusable automation built with sound engineering practices. Observability & Reliability Design and improve monitoring, alerting, logging, tracing, and dashboards so teams can understand system health and identify issues before customers report them. Use data to improve reliability and reduce noisy or ineffective alerts. Be able to demonstrate examples of observability or reliability improvements you have designed and implemented. Release Pipeline Engineering Design, manage, and continuously improve release pipelines in Azure DevOps. Automate validation, deployment, rollback, and release controls where appropriate. Work with development teams to improve upstream practices when changes to testing, packaging, branching, or application design would improve the overall delivery process. Operational Excellence & Post-Deployment Support Provide ongoing support after deployment by troubleshooting production issues, gathering feedback, and implementing improvements to enhance application stability and performance. Participate in incident response and on-call rotations to ensure rapid resolution. Use recurring incidents and operational issues to identify opportunities for automation and longer-term reliability improvements. Infrastructure Modernization & Optimization Assess and improve existing infrastructure for reliability, scalability, security, and performance. Modernize legacy systems incrementally, moving toward more automated and cloud-native approaches where they provide clear value without introducing unnecessary risk. Documentation & Process Discipline Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for deployments, configuration changes, and troubleshooting processes to ensure transparency, auditability, and effective cross-team communication. Who You Are 5+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, or a similar engineering role, particularly within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem and Azure DevOps.Prior experience in SaaS support and delivery, with a focus on both IaaS and PaaS solutions within Azure environments using Azure DevOps, with experience modernizing existing infrastructure and deployment practices.Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly as it relates to configuring and managing Azure-based systems with Bicep and/or Terraform. Experience with ARM, Octopus, or other legacy tooling is useful when working with existing environments.Solid understanding of security principles in complex ecosystems and proficiency with debugging and diagnostic tools to resolve application issues effectively.Strong automation skills using PowerShell and at least one general-purpose language such as Python, Go, or C#. Automation should be maintainable, reusable, testable, and treated as production code where appropriate.Experience with traditional environments including SFTP, IIS, SQL Server, and third-party applications, with the ability to automate and progressively modernize them.Hands-on experience designing monitoring, alerting, logging, tracing, and dashboards for production systems. Able to explain what was implemented, why it was designed that way, and how it improved reliability or operations.Strong technical curiosity. You enjoy experimenting with technology, understanding how systems work, and building or improving things beyond the immediate task in front of you.Demonstrated experience replacing manual operational work with reliable automation.Excellent communication skills for clear and effective collaboration with developers, management, and technical teams. Comfortable working across team boundaries and challenging existing approaches when there is a better engineering solution.Experience implementing security controls against standards such as NIST, STIG's, CIS Benchmarks, etc., with an emphasis on automating validation and enforcement where practical.Experience working in a regulated environment like PCI, SOC II, ISO27001, HIPAA, HITRUST, etc.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving application issues.
