Could It Be You? This is a unique opportunity to apply your backend engineering skills to the fast-paced world of cryptocurrency and new trading products, contributing to our technological growth. As a Senior Backend Engineer specializing in Crypto and Alternative Trading Products at Questrade, you will be a key contributor to our digital asset and alternative offerings. You will be responsible for building and maintaining the core infrastructure for our retail crypto trading platforms and internal administrative tools, helping to expand our crypto capabilities and launch new alternative trading products. Keep reading… In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to: Platform Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure backend services for Questrade's retail crypto and alternatives trading platforms. Infrastructure Expansion: Contribute to the expansion of crypto infrastructure across various Questrade products, ensuring seamless integration and high performance. New Product Launches: Play a key role in the development and launch of new crypto capabilities for clients and internal teams. Growth Portfolio Innovation: Contribute to the build and delivery of new alternative trading products within the dedicated Growth Portfolio entity. Operational Support: Provide support for all crypto trading and transfer solutions, ensuring system stability and reliability. API Design & Documentation: Create and document clear, efficient, and secure APIs (including RESTful and WebSocket APIs) to facilitate all aspects of crypto and alternatives transactions. Team Collaboration & Mentorship: Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. Efficiency & Automation: Identify opportunities to automate workflows and optimize system performance. Problem Solving: Diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues, ensuring high availability and optimal performance of crypto and trading systems. Collaboration: Work closely with product owners, front-end developers, QA engineers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Research & Innovation: Stay current with the latest trends and technologies in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space. So are YOU our next Senior Backend Engineer? You are if you… Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot is desired. Experience integrating common crypto platform vendors (hot wallets, custodians, execution management service, payment processors) is a plus. Experience in the financial services or FinTech industry. Familiarity with security best practices in blockchain and financial applications. Experience launching new products from 0 to 1. Experience in Angular and React Native is a bonus. Experience: 5 years of experience in backend software development, with a focus on building scalable and resilient systems. Additional Information… Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in one or more modern backend programming languages (e.g., C#, Java, Go, Python, Node.js). Experience designing and building RESTful and WebSocket APIs is desired. Solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) and SOLID principles. Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases. Experience with event-driven architecture and message queues (e.g., PubSub, Kafka, RabbitMQ). Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, Azure, AWS) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with unit testing frameworks and practices. System Design: Experience designing and building scalable systems with a focus on performance, security, and maintainability. Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Collaboration: A strong team player who thrives in a collaborative environment. Initiative: A self-starter with a proactive mindset. Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Additional Kudos If You… Have experience in the financial services industry Compensation Information: Base salary range: $100,000 - $140,000 The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada).
