Description

At The ReWork Group, we partner with high-growth startups and forward-thinking companies to build the future. Our client is building a platform where AI doesn't just analyze data; it reasons across it, forecasts what's coming, and acts on its own. We're looking for their Software Engineering Manager, the person who owns the backend from the whiteboard to production and pulls the team up along the way. You'll write the code that matters, make the architectural calls that are expensive to get wrong, and raise the ceiling for every engineer sitting next to you. If you've been the person who quietly holds the system together and makes everyone around you sharper, this is the job that finally pays you for both. This is a high-ownership seat on a small team moving at startup speed. There's no wall between the people who design systems and the people who run them. You build it, you ship it, you own it in the wild. What You'll Do: Architecture. Design and stand up backend services that hold up under real load, not just on a slide.APIs. Build the interfaces the rest of the product leans on, and build them to last.Data. Go deep on databases: schema, queries, and the performance work that separates fast products from slow ones.Quality. Ship with strong unit testing, because the bugs that reach production are the expensive kind.DevOps. Deploy, monitor, and improve systems in production. You own what you ship, end to end.Mentorship. Grow the engineers around you. Your best leverage isn't your own keyboard; it's the team's. Who You Are: A player-coach who writes real code and makes everyone next to you better at the same time.Someone who moves fast and does their best work in startup-grade ambiguity.Wired for ownership. You set the bar; you don't wait for someone to set it for you.Already using AI to work faster and sharper, because that's now table stakes, not a bonus. What You Bring: Real production experience building and running backend services at scale, not just prototypes.Expert-level Python experience.Solid understanding of DevOps concepts, including containers, deployment, monitoring, and reliabilityFluency with API design and the tradeoffs that come with it.Deep database chops: you can model the data, write the queries, and find the bottleneck.A track record of testing and operational discipline, because you've felt the cost of skipping it.Enough leadership range to mentor without a title and to level up a team by example.
