Software Engineer, Customer Support
Remote, US-based
Full-time $90,000 Apply now
We’re looking for a software engineer to own the engineering side of support.
When something breaks, you’re the one who picks it up, works out what’s actually going on, and drives it to a fix.
Your job is to respond fast and keep everyone in the loop until it’s closed.
Camps run their whole operation on the product in season, so quick response times are what the role lives and dies by.
It’s a full engineering role, not a ticket queue.
Between the bugs you’re shipping features and improvements in the same codebase, in the same standups and reviews as the rest of engineering.
What we expect
We’re Not Asking You To Fix Everything The Instant It Arrives.
Some Bugs Are Quick.
Some Are Deep.
Some Turn Out To Be a Config Issue Or a Missing Feature, Not a Bug At All.
What We Expect Every Time Is a Fast, Honest Response And Clear Coordination:
The camp always knows their issue has been picked up and what happens nextYou’ve triaged it: real bug, config problem, or feature gap, and routed it accordinglyIf it’s a fast fix, you ship it.
If it’s bigger, you scope it, log it in Linear, and help pull in the right peopleNothing goes quiet.
The status is always visible to the team and the customer
Proactive beats heroic here.
We’d rather you flag a problem early and set the right expectation than promise a same-day fix on something that genuinely takes three days.
What you’ll do
Pick up camp-reported bugs, reproduce them, and drive them to resolution at whatever pace each one honestly allowsTriage fast and accurately: separate real bugs from configuration and feature requests, and route each to the right ownerShip the fixes you can, and scope and coordinate the ones you can’t do aloneShip features and improvements between bug work, so you’re building on the roadmap and not only firefightingWork across the stack: React with Inertia on the front, Ruby on Rails behind it, Postgres for dataWatch our error monitoring tools and catch issues before a camp has to report themTrack everything in Linear, and join the same standups, reviews, and Slack as the rest of engineering to help curate the product
What we’re looking for
Comfortable across frontend and backend in a Rails and React codebaseYou enjoy dropping into unfamiliar code and tracing a bug to its cause without any hand-holdingA clear communicator who sets expectations well.
You’ll read customer reports and often talk to camps directlyAvailable through US business hours, since in-season issues need same-day attention even when the fix takes longerReal hands-on coding experience and a solid grasp of what you’re shipping.
AI speeds you up, but it doesn’t do the job for you, so this isn’t a role for someone who only vibecodesFluent with AI tools like Claude Code and Codex, and clear-eyed about where they help and where they don’tYou know camp, or you want to.
Understanding how a camp actually runs helps you fix the right things first, and camp experience of any kind is a plus
Logistics
Remote, US-basedWorking hours may shift later during the summer season, depending on your timezone, to cover camps while they’re liveIn peak season, expect to be reachable for urgent issues outside normal hours from time to timePotential travel for industry events (e.g.
ACA Tri-State, Camp Collab, and similar)
What we offer
Salary of $90,000Health coverageBudget to set up your home office: desk, monitor, chair, whatever helps you work well
About Campfront
Campfront is a camp management platform for US summer camps.
Camps use it to run enrollment, payments, and the daily admin of operating a camp.
Campfront is a new platform with an experienced team behind it.
It comes from the people who built Camp Leaders, drawing on more than 25 years running programs and working with camp directors.
We hire great people, trust them with real ownership, and back them with modern tools.
The team is lean and autonomous by design, which is how we ship weekly and move fast.
We have fun doing it, and we take real pride in building the best software in the industry and setting a new bar for what camps should expect.
