A Berlin-based technology company is seeking a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to build and evolve a sophisticated business platform. The role combines strong backend development with frontend collaboration and modern architecture.

Highlights

Opportunity to build complex business platforms, work across the stack, and contribute to modern software architecture.

Description

Important: You must be based in Berlin for this role. We offer flexibility to work from home, but this is not a remote-from-anywhere position. Hivebuy is a Berlin-based B2B procurement SaaS transforming how companies manage purchasing, approvals, orders, invoices, budgets and suppliers. We’re building much more than a CRUD application. Our platform combines complex procurement workflows, multi-tenant architecture, ERP and accounting integrations, real-time functionality and increasingly AI-powered workflows. We’re looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer with a strong backend focus to help us build and evolve this platform. We’re looking for a T-shaped engineer: someone with deep backend expertise who is also comfortable following a feature across the entire stack. You don’t need to be equally strong in Django and Vue, but you should be willing and able to understand, change and ship both. Our core stack includes Python, Django, PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, Elasticsearch, Vue 3, TypeScript and AWS. We run our services on ECS Fargate, manage infrastructure with Terraform, and use Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry and CloudWatch to understand what’s happening in production. AI coding agents are a normal part of how we develop software. We believe they make strong engineers significantly more effective, but they also make judgment, verification and ownership more important, not less. Tasks Own features end-to-end. Understand the problem, challenge requirements when necessary, design the solution, implement it, test it, deploy it and verify that it actually works in production. Design and build backend services and APIs using Python, Django and Django REST Framework. Work with PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery and Elasticsearch to build reliable, scalable application and background-processing workflows. Work across the stack when necessary, implementing and debugging functionality in our Vue 3 + TypeScriptfrontend. Build and maintain integrations with external systems such as ERP/accounting platforms, authentication providers, billing systems, Slack and Microsoft Teams. Work on our growing AI-powered product features and help us integrate LLMs responsibly into production workflows. Investigate production issues across the complete system, from browser to API, background workers, databases and infrastructure. Write meaningful automated tests using tools such as pytest, Vitest and Playwright. Improve performance, reliability, monitoring and deployment safety. Participate in architecture discussions and make technical decisions that keep the system maintainable as we grow. Review code and help maintain a high engineering standard across the team. Identify technical improvements proactively. If you see a bad pattern, flaky test, slow endpoint, missing metric or repetitive manual process, we expect you to improve it or make it visible. Use AI coding agents as part of your engineering workflow for implementation, investigation, testing, review and understanding unfamiliar parts of the system. Communicate proactively in our distributed working environment, document important decisions and surface blockers and risks early. For us, “done” does not mean “PR merged.” Done means the change is running in production, works as intended and has been verified. Requirements Strong professional experience building and operating production systems with Python and Django, ideally Django REST Framework. Deep understanding of PostgreSQL, including data modelling, migrations, query performance, indexing and diagnosing database-related production issues. Experience designing and evolving asynchronous and distributed workloads, ideally with Celery and Redis, including retries, idempotency, failure handling and long-running tasks. Strong understanding of software architecture and system design. You can make pragmatic architectural decisions, explain the trade-offs and evolve existing systems without unnecessary rewrites. Experience owning features and systems from design through production, including deployment, monitoring, verification and incident investigation. Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD workflows and deployment strategies, ideally including chunk-based or independently deployable components, safe rollouts, automated quality gates and rollback strategies. Strong experience with production observability. You know how to use metrics, logs, error tracking and profiling to understand system behaviour and find root causes instead of guessing. Experience identifying and solving performance and scalability problems across applications, databases, background workers and infrastructure. Experience working with AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure and a good understanding of how applications actually run in production. Enough Vue/TypeScript or comparable frontend experience to own a feature across the full stack, investigate frontend problems and ship frontend changes without depending on another engineer for every UI task. Experience designing and maintaining external integrations, including failure handling, authentication, webhooks and third-party API behaviour. Strong engineering judgment. You can distinguish between something that needs architectural work, something that needs a small pragmatic fix and something that should not be built at all. You proactively identify technical problems and improvements instead of waiting for them to become tickets. You are comfortable challenging requirements, existing architecture and technical decisions when you have a better approach, and can communicate the reasoning clearly. You use AI coding agents as engineering tools, not just code generators, and remain fully responsible for understanding, reviewing, testing and operating what you ship. You are currently based in Berlin or are willing to relocate to Berlin. Benefits Flexible hybrid work with the freedom to work from home while being part of our Berlin-based team. An office in the heart of Berlin with drinks, snacks and communal lunches. Trust-based working hours. We care about outcomes rather than tracking hours. A high degree of technical ownership and autonomy. Direct influence on architecture, engineering practices and how our technology evolves. AI-native engineering workflows. Modern coding agents are tools we actively expect and encourage you to use. A modern production stack across backend, frontend, infrastructure and observability. Flat hierarchies and short communication paths. The opportunity to shape engineering practices while our team and product grow. Urban Sports Club membership options. BVG Ticket JOB Bicycle We’re not looking for someone whose primary value is simply writing code quickly. AI has changed that part of software development. What matters to us is whether you can understand a problem, make good technical decisions, challenge assumptions, use the tools available to you, verify the result and take responsibility for what happens in production. You don’t need to know every part of our stack. You do need to be curious enough to investigate what you don’t know and comfortable taking ownership beyond the boundaries of a ticket. We also know our existing codebase isn’t perfect. We don’t expect you to blindly copy existing patterns just because they’re already there. When you find something that can be better, we want you to say so and help us improve it. If that’s how you like to work, we’d like to hear from you.
