Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager, Fraud & Identity Platform based in Canada.
This is a high-impact engineering leadership role focused on protecting a large-scale digital marketplace and the people who rely on it.
You’ll lead a team responsible for foundational identity, authentication, verification, and fraud-risk capabilities that underpin account security and marketplace integrity.
The role combines technical strategy, people leadership, and operational excellence across complex, distributed systems.
You’ll work closely with Product, Security, Fraud, Data Science, Legal, Operations, and external technology partners to solve sophisticated, adversarial problems at scale.
You’ll also help shape how AI and risk signals are incorporated into identity and fraud decisioning while maintaining strong privacy, safety, and compliance standards.

Accountabilities
Own the vision, technical roadmap, and execution strategy for identity and fraud-risk platforms spanning authentication, account lifecycle, identity verification, eligibility, identity graph signals, and fraud prevention.Lead, manage, and develop a team of backend and platform engineers by establishing clear goals, providing regular feedback and coaching, supporting career development, and fostering a high-performing, inclusive culture.Drive reliable delivery of business-critical systems by defining service health objectives, strengthening on-call practices, leading post-incident learning, and ensuring long-term remediation of critical issues.Partner with Product, Security, Fraud, Data Science and Machine Learning, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and external vendors to deliver capabilities such as account takeover prevention, identity verification, eligibility workflows, and compliance solutions.Collaborate with senior technical leaders to define how identity and risk information is modeled, exposed, and consumed across internal platforms, including the evolution toward unified risk scoring and fraud-as-a-service capabilities.Guide responsible adoption of AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices across design, development, testing, and operations, establishing appropriate safeguards around privacy, security, compliance, and human oversight.Define technical strategies for surfacing identity and risk signals to AI systems, agents, and internal platforms while balancing safety, reliability, scalability, and developer experience.Balance product delivery with operational excellence, technical debt, security priorities, reliability improvements, and defect management while making disciplined decisions in a rapidly evolving environment.Represent the Identity Platform organization in senior cross-functional planning and leadership forums, clearly communicating priorities, risks, technical tradeoffs, and measurable business impact.
Requirements
7+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in engineering management, engineering leadership, or a technical lead capacity.Proven experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems or real-time decisioning platforms in production, ideally within identity, fraud, risk, payments, security, or another safety-critical domain.Strong backend or platform engineering background with proficiency in technologies such as Go, Java, or Python.Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP and modern data stores including PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, or comparable technologies.Demonstrated people-management experience, including hiring, performance management, coaching, feedback, career development, and team building.Experience partnering with Product, Security, Data Science or Machine Learning, Operations, Legal, and Compliance teams to establish requirements, navigate tradeoffs, and deliver measurable outcomes.Experience working in AI-forward engineering environments, including AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, or LLM-powered services, with sound judgment around human versus automated decision-making.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business impact, operational risk, and clear recommendations for senior stakeholders.Experience in trust and safety, identity verification, fraud, risk, or payments within a high-scale marketplace or consumer technology environment is highly desirable.Familiarity with privacy, security, auditability, and regulatory requirements for sensitive identity, account, or financial data.Experience integrating and managing external identity, risk, device intelligence, or verification vendors, including vendor performance, SLAs, migrations, or technology transitions.Knowledge of experimentation and analytics approaches for measuring fraud impact, account security, false-positive rates, customer friction, and operational efficiency.Experience applying AI or LLM-based approaches to fraud detection, identity systems, risk scoring, identity graph capabilities, or decisioning workflows is a strong advantage.
