Job Overview PatchPlus Consulting (PPC), through its technology division PatchPlus Technologies (P2T), is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to support Department of War (DoW) research, development, prototyping, and capability development efforts. The successful candidate will contribute directly to the design, development, integration, testing, and deployment of software solutions supporting advanced defense technologies and mission-focused applications. This position is ideal for a software developer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working in multidisciplinary engineering teams, and developing innovative capabilities that transition from research concepts to operational prototypes. Projects may involve software systems supporting autonomy, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), cyber operations, electronic warfare, command and control, mission systems, data analytics, digital engineering, cloud-based platforms, and emerging defense technologies. The Software Engineer will collaborate closely with software developers, systems engineers, military subject matter experts, data scientists, and researchers to build scalable, secure, and mission-focused solutions for government customers. Responsibilities include software design, coding, testing, integration, troubleshooting, and technical documentation throughout the software development lifecycle. Previous experience supporting DoD research and development efforts, including Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR), Other Transaction Authority (OTA) projects, rapid prototyping, experimentation, or defense technology development is highly desirable. This position primarily supports remote work with periodic travel for customer engagements, integration events, technical exchanges, demonstrations, testing activities, and team collaboration within the United States. Responsibilities / Duties Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software applications supporting DoW R&D and prototyping efforts.Participate in all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).Develop APIs, backend services, web applications, data pipelines, and cloud-based solutions.Apply secure coding practices and support cybersecurity requirements.Perform software integration, debugging, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and testing.Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and military SMEs to develop mission-focused capabilities.Support Agile development activities, technical documentation, and configuration management.Contribute to proof-of-concept efforts, prototype demonstrations, and technology transition activities.Stay current with emerging software technologies, tools, and best practices. Requirements US Citizen.Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.Mid level: 4–6 years of software development experience, including software architecture/design experience.Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, React/Tailwind, C++, C#, Go).Experience with Database Design and development such as SQL and MongoDB.Experience developing software applications, APIs, services, or distributed systems.Understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and secure coding practices.Experience with cloud technologies, containerization, Git, and modern development toolchains.Knowledge and experience with Azure DevOps and pipeline deployments.Experience with software testing and deployment.Strong communication and collaboration skills.Willingness to travel up to 15% for customer meetings, technical exchanges, testing events, and team collaboration activities.
