Description

Platform Engineer (Early to Mid-level)- Geospatial Data Systems | Carbon Mapper | Remote Carbon Mapper is looking for a Platform Engineer to support, operate, and improve the cloud infrastructure, deployment workflows, observability systems, automation, and operational practices that power Carbon Mapper’s Data Platform. The Platform Engineer will work closely with our Engineering and Science teams to support AWS cloud services, GitLab CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, monitoring and alerting, incident response, operational documentation, and developer enablement. Carbon Mapper’s current platform uses AWS services including Lambda, Step Functions, ECS, AWS Batch, CloudWatch, S3, IAM, and related networking, along with GitLab, New Relic, and PagerDuty. This role is well suited for someone who wants to grow across platform engineering, AWS, CI/CD, reliability, and data platform operations- and who is excited to apply that work toward climate action. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Operations Support AWS infrastructure for Carbon Mapper’s application, data, and platform systems, including Lambda, Step Functions, ECS, AWS Batch, CloudWatch, S3, IAM, and networking Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot cloud resources Identify and implement infrastructure improvements to increase consistency, reliability, security, and cost efficiency across environments CI/CD, Deployment, and Automation Maintain, improve, and troubleshoot GitLab CI/CD pipelines for application, data, and infrastructure workflows, including build, test, deployment, and rollback automation Help standardize deployment workflows across services and environments by creating templates and examples Automate repetitive manual tasks and toil Observability, Reliability, and Incident Support Improve logging, metrics, and dashboards for services, jobs, and data pipelines Participate in incident response and post-incident follow-up; help improve alerts, runbooks, recovery procedures, and reprocessing workflows Triage and troubleshoot application, data pipeline, infrastructure, deployment, and alerting issues, and turn recurring problems into documentation, automation, or platform improvements Security, Access, and Cost Awareness Help implement practical guardrails for secure and efficient cloud operations Identify underused, misconfigured, or inconsistent resources, and work with senior engineers to strengthen security, access, and cost practices Documentation and Developer Enablement Write and maintain deployment guides, runbooks, troubleshooting procedures, operational references, and reusable examples for common engineering workflows Partner with software engineers and scientists on effective use of platform tools Learn more and apply
