About the Opportunity The Staff Systems Engineer, IT role is a senior, hands-on engineering position focused on owning and improving systems that support employee lifecycle management and shared IT infrastructure. This position drives automation and reliability using infrastructure-as-code and site reliability engineering (SRE) practices, while integrating AI to reduce manual workflows and improve service management across the organization. Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain automation for onboarding, transfers, role changes, and offboarding processes. Serve as the technical owner of the IT service management (ITSM) platform, including service catalog, workflows, incident and change processes, integrations, and upgrades. Increase AI deflection rates through deployment and tuning of virtual agents, AI search, and automated resolution workflows. Identify and automate repetitive manual workflows across IT and partner teams. Develop and maintain integrations between the ITSM platform and core systems such as identity management, collaboration, and HR tools. Manage IT infrastructure as code across cloud environments with version control and automated deployment. Apply SRE principles to IT-owned services, including monitoring, reliability targets, capacity planning, and post-incident reviews. Develop knowledge management and self-service content supporting AI deflection. Measure automation and AI effectiveness with metrics and dashboards, and iterate on performance publicly. Define engineering standards for the IT automation stack and mentor support engineers. Collaborate with Security and Compliance to ensure automation and AI workflows meet audit and control requirements. Document architecture, runbooks, and design decisions to ensure transparency and maintainability. Requirements Broad experience as a systems engineer owning diverse platforms end to end. Expertise in infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform) with version-controlled change management. Working knowledge of SRE practices applied to owned services. Experience operating workloads in major public cloud environments; familiarity with AWS, GCP, and Azure is beneficial. Experience with virtual desktop infrastructure technologies. Proven record automating employee lifecycle processes across HRIS, identity, and endpoint management. Experience with workflow automation and integration platforms (e.g., Okta Workflows, Serval) and ITSM platforms. Familiarity with AI-enabled service capabilities such as virtual agents and AI search.
