Description

Job Description DevOps Manager Location: UK (Remote) Employment Type: Permanent The Role We are partnering with a leading luxury retailer to recruit an experienced DevOps Manager to lead the day-to-day operation, support and continuous improvement of its ecommerce and digital platforms. This is a hands-on leadership role combining technical delivery with team management. You will lead and support a DevOps team, remaining close to the technology while overseeing cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, automation, monitoring, security and live service operations. The role is not purely strategic. You will be expected to roll up your sleeves, understand the technical detail, support the team through complex issues and help drive improvements across a fast-moving digital environment with frequent product launches and releases. Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor and develop a DevOps team, managing capacity, priorities and day-to-day delivery. Provide hands-on technical leadership across Azure infrastructure, deployment pipelines, automation and operational tooling. Oversee the reliability, availability, security and performance of ecommerce and digital platforms across development, test and production environments. Support frequent product launches and releases, working closely with Development, Product, Testing, Security and IT teams to ensure platforms are ready for live service. Lead incident management, root cause analysis and service improvement activities, ensuring issues are resolved effectively and lessons are applied. Manage monitoring and observability, using tools such as Dynatrace or similar platforms to improve visibility, alerting and platform performance. Oversee cloud infrastructure, environments and costs, identifying opportunities for optimisation and improved efficiency. Support the implementation of secure networking, CDN and certificate management solutions, including technologies such as Akamai or Cloudflare. Maintain operational standards, documentation, runbooks, KPIs and SLOs across the DevOps function. Manage third-party suppliers and technology partners, ensuring services meet agreed performance and operational requirements. Manage the DevOps on-call rota and ensure appropriate support coverage for production services. Identify opportunities to introduce automation, AI-assisted tooling and improved engineering practices across the DevOps function. Provide technical guidance while developing the team and creating opportunities to move towards a more strategic engineering leadership model. Essential Skills & Experience Proven experience leading or managing DevOps, Platform Engineering, SRE or similar technical teams. Experience within retail, ecommerce, luxury retail, travel, fintech or other high-volume digital environments. Strong hands-on understanding of DevOps practices, with the ability to get involved technically rather than operating purely at a strategic level. Strong Microsoft Azure experience across IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, serverless, containers and automation. Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Pulumi, ARM or similar technologies. Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly Azure DevOps and GitHub. Good understanding of PowerShell, YAML, Python and/or TypeScript. Strong understanding of networking, including DNS, routing, firewalls and load balancing. Experience managing enterprise-scale web applications, microservices and high-traffic digital platforms. Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Catchpoint or similar. Experience managing incidents, problem management, root cause analysis and live production environments. Understanding of application and cloud security, including OWASP principles, WAF, bot management and security scanning. Experience with CDN technologies and security controls, such as Akamai, Cloudflare or equivalent.
